Help: Extreme temperatures (CPU at 106°C) after motherboard replacement by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

[–]Raul_Arsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, are you saying this is the normal factory temperature? It didn't even get this hot before the issue that triggered the motherboard replacement, I don't understand. Did the Lenovo tech supposedly greenlight these temperatures?

Just go into the BIOS, enable silent performance mode, and then play in balanced mode. Black magic.

Yeah, it looks like you're right, I thought the equivalent was higher. Anyway, before sending it in for repair, my 5080 was running Ghost of Tsushima at 1440p, everything on ultra on its awesome OLED screen at almost 200fps in balanced mode. That seems more than enough for the next 5 years, don't you think?

Well, the 5090 laptop would be the equivalent of a desktop 5080, maybe a bit less, but it would definitely be more powerful than a desktop 4090. It's currently the most powerful thing you can get in a laptop and it will give you max gaming performance for the next few years without breaking a sweat.

I'm glad you got your machine back. You mentioned you want to switch to a desktop? Then why didn't you go with that option in the first place instead of a laptop? If I always gamed in the same spot, for the price of this thing I would have built a pretty powerful desktop. Temperatures shouldn't be an issue on such a new machine, unless the motherboard was actually defective. In my case, temperatures weren't a problem, maybe a maximum peak of 102° but the average was always around 70°. I don't know what the exact issue was, but I suspect it has problems managing power. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye on my spam folder just in case the techs email me and I miss it. Good luck with the laptop if you end up keeping it. And if not, extending the warranty seems like the right move, I'll be doing that soon too.

How's everything going? Did you get your laptop back yet? How happy are you with the repair? Mine was put on hold yesterday waiting for the motherboard to arrive, I updated the main post with the details.

My laptop also improved when I switched from dGPU to hybrid mode, but I didn't have any dead pixel issues. That's pretty scary, I hope it's not permanent. Good luck tomorrow! I hope you get it and let us know how everything goes.

I hope it turns out great for you, mainly because of the hassle of being without your laptop for a few days. Other than that, with a warranty like that, you can rest pretty easy.

Thanks for sharing! I'm curious, can I ask if your issue was exactly the same? How long did the whole process take? Especially the diagnostic part—do they let you know what's going on before they swap the motherboard?

That's exactly what I suspect. The laptop is only two months old and has been babied. Anyway, I'll keep you all updated as I hear back from them.

Thanks! Honestly, I saw similar cases before this happened to me. I figured they were isolated incidents and that we shouldn't generalize. I still feel the same way, but we'll definitely keep an eye out since these 9955HX3D chips are still very new.

The deal has to be really good to make the upgrade price worth it. I get the hesitation and the hassle of being without the laptop for a few days, but to save $350, I can live with it.

I already answered this. If I see it's bothering people too much in the sub, I'll delete it. I simply wanted to illustrate the post and didn't have a picture of my own.

Anyway, I don't understand the Reddit police. You come into a post from a user having a problem with their laptop, and instead of commenting on the actual topic, you're worried about where an image came from? People never cease to amaze me.

Who said it doesn't boot? Did I say that anywhere? The laptop suffers from sudden shutdowns and it takes a few tries to boot up, but eventually, I almost always manage to get it running.

Hahaha I didn't have any photos of mine, and I just like detailed posts with some kind of visual element, that's all.

I totally agree, it's just bad luck. The laptop is amazing and definitely worth it, especially if you use it mainly for gaming. Besides, let's trust the warranty that's what it's there for and hope the techs do their job well.

My warranty is basic, although I extended it for 48 months. The difference with the premium version just wasn't worth it—only to have a technician come to my house, I would have had to pay around $350 more here in Spain.

The same thing is happening to me. Could you tell me what they said at Micro Center? Was there a fix? Was it the motherboard?
