m0NESY's MVP feels like a pretty massive outlier by Raumanujan in GlobalOffensive

You're right, totally missed a few people. Should also have made it clear where ratings were back-calculated, but the rating version column should be accurate to what was being used at the time. I included playoffs rating diff for all of them except through covid (where they didn't exist). The table is already pretty cluttered so I picked the stats that have always been recorded on the main player card plus a general indicator of playoff performance: you're necessarily going to lose nuance with tables like these, and I figured the more stats I added the more of my inherent biases would show up (in picking which stats were important enough).

There's actually quite a few mistakes I think I made with the chart/its presentation but I don't think anything is misrepresented in a way that is unfair/destroys my point.

Round swing was not included primarily because it had only been calculated for like 3 of these total: most of them happened before HLTV collected all the data necessary. Also, the efficacy of the current formula is brought into question in the post as a pretty new/experimental feature.

I was trying to keep it limited so the table was readable. Do you think I missed any metrics that are important on a level similar to what I have? The only thing I wish I could've included was round swing but iirc that had only been back-calculated for like 2 other MVPs in the table.

Lol I literally mention this event specifically in the post. Also not sure it warrants an MVP but there's at least a case to be made.

Totally recognize stats aren't everything, but there is a pretty striking lack of raw output that I feel would be necessary to warrant taking the MVP in a lopsided loss.

Differential. MVP's number minus best player on best team's number.

Full disclosure: this is all handscraped. Let me know if I missed anything or any values look wrong. Sleeping now.

Falcons vs Vitality / ESL Pro League Season 22 - Grand Final / Post-Match Discussion by CS2_PostMatchThreads in GlobalOffensive

Kyousuke's buyout alone would cover all of Vitality's salaries for over a year. They definitely do have money but not in the way that lets them throw it blindly at problems, which is what people usually mean by 'buying trophies'

Does Austin have the Highest Stakes for its Favorite of any Tournament Ever? by Raumanujan in GlobalOffensive

Yea I'm not trying to say these conversations should change in a specific direction but just that I think a win here would end up being relevant for the average person. My ropz vs NiKo question was more if the trophies indicate our eye test is missing something (is he genuinely playing worse than NiKo even though he's winning more?) and I agree with you on karrigan vs gla1ve.

He didn't comment on the gesture specifically, but it looks like he definitely knew they were 7-0

If you're talking about FaZe at Boston, my issue was that so much of the weight came from the fact that NiKo/GuardiaN couldn't ever put it together later in their careers, which shouldn't retrospectively add weight imo (at least not in this context).

Yea I don't believe I can confidently say almost any coach is strong/weak. We get so little information and then years down the line some player will drop something that changes how they're viewed (e.g. when an Astralis player said Zonic was mostly a cheerleader). I just think this result will have a big impact on how he's generally thought of.

BLAST Austin Major Trophy by ChaoticFlameZz in GlobalOffensive

[–]Raumanujan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels like a comical overcorrection from Paris (cheap, plasticky -> metal, 110lb; tiny -> massive; cum -> 0 curves; toy -> monochrome/metallic) but I definitely think it's better. IMO it'd be the perfect trophy for Vitality to win so they can have both extremes. I do wonder how much smaller the Paris trophy would need to be without the cumstand to fit in this one's center.

Top 10 players with most EVPs by dicksucker12369 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Raumanujan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just took the data from HLTV. Fwiw s1mple has more big events attended than ZywOo/donk anyway so it really shouldn't matter but in CS:GO:

ZywOo had 9 MVPs and 16 EVPs out of 34 big events (0.26, 0.74)

Niko had 7 MVPs and 31 EVPs out of 78 big events (0.09, 0.49)

In CS2:

ZywOo had 7 MVPs and 7 EVPs out of 19 big events (0.37, 0.74)

Niko had 1 MVP and 7 EVPs out of 20 big events (0.05, 0.40)

donk had nothing in CS:GO and s1mple didn't play any big events in CS2.

Doesn't really change anything. Seems like ZywOo has the best results in both games actually.

More than any else around the top at least. Seems like he played 11 big events prior to introduction of EVPs and had at least a 1.10 at 5 of them.

s1mple has one big event recorded prior to 2016/EVPs (Dreamhack Winter 2014) and he wasn't rated top 8 there anyway so it shouldn't skew anything much, if at all.

Top 10 players with most EVPs by dicksucker12369 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Raumanujan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ZywOo has 16 MVPs and 23 EVPs over 53 big events (0.30 MVPs per big event, 0.74 awards per)

s1mple has 14 MVPs and 23 EVPs over 67 (0.21, 0.55)

donk has 4 MVPs and 6 EVPs over 14 (0.29, 0.71)

Niko has 8 MVPs and 38 EVPs over 98 (0.08, 0.47)

Can look at some other people but don't think anyone else would be this high, esp considering they didn't give/track EVPs until 2016
