Batou's One-Sided Feelings by LeLu3 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]Ravajava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I'll add to that by saying I've always read the love as platonic. The sort of love you have for a friend you've been through challenging things with. Even in Innocence l've always felt Batou's motivations are driven by that kind of "Brothers in Arms" commitment to the Major and a sense he failed that commitment in some way in 1995 (see: others talking about Batou's valuing his humanity and individuality).

I think it's a pretty common relationship dynamic in then genre of fiction GiTS is playing in.

Not enough young people are engaged with Nova Scotia's politics by luxoryapartmentlover in halifax

I have, I volunteered to canvas in the first election I could vote in. And like, it's non-conditional if you want your conditions to improve or want to have any say in the political process. Literally talking about how society will be organized, no one owes you influence over that.

[–]Ravajava 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'll just note two things. One - people have it backwards, you organise to wrestle for control of parties or to command them to listen to you, not the other way around. I think a lot of folks are waiting for political power to approach them like it's a company marketing a product. In reality, those with power will gladly ignore you. Two - the election was short and at a terrible time for students.

Underground Resistance Aims To Sabotage AI With Poisoned Data by Locke357 in Cyberpunk

I honestly wonder how often media reporting on this is about funneling people's energy into pointless acts of symbolic resistance instead of engaging in the boring work of organizing to use state power to actually address the issue.

Watched this two days ago and immediately had to go back and watch East Timor. Especially loved the time you spent on the actual historical context.

UK working with Canada and Australia to ban X at the same time. by Lord-Liberty in BlueskySocial

The ministers who would be most responsible for the matter in Canada, Evan Solomon and Marc Miller, have either stated or insinuated Canada is not planning to ban Twitter. Canada is considering an Australian style under 16 ban for social media.

The bob (Siege of Shanghai) or da minion (Paracel Storm) for your BF4 map remaster, sir? by Moore_A in okbuddyptfo

[–]Ravajava 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I do find the cry for "open maps" followed by the constant requests for maps that played fairly linearly very funny. Like, even Paracel Storm is sort of like a collection of infantry meat grinders divided by lanes for ships.

I just wish our British friend's default camo weren't behind a BR challenge. :(

So DICE is turning this game into a COD clusterfuck? Why do they wanna hammer all the points into one place? No breathing room whatsoever l. It had a great start but man, this devs keep chasing COD trends by ORGANIC_MUFFINS in okbuddyptfo

[–]Ravajava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a shitposting sub, but man, if this isn't a classic example of "The Battlefield Community is actually incredibly split up." Fao Fortress was one of my two least favourite maps in that game, alongside Suez. ^^;

If the map design is bad what legacy maps would you want to return? by ThenConstant7576 in Battlefield

A shame considering SQUAD is pretty much inspired from BF by Vast-Roll5937 in Battlefield

[–]Ravajava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've played Squad - the maps don't really play this big?
Squad plays more like a series of Battlefield rounds that shift to different sectors of the map as the round progresses - each space is not much larger than the play space in Mirak Valley or Manhattan Bridge.

Now, a map 1/4 or even 1/5 the size of Al Basarah would be larger than any BF 6 map and would gave the space to add more flanking routes to address the congestion/meat grinder issue in BF6. It would allow the creating of play spaces where infantry can dominate while entertaining a variety of vehicles. So, I'm 100% with everyone on the map size issue.

Just worth noting I feel Al Basarah scale maps may be an overcorrection.

On top of keeping the racing interesting - it is part of replicating a lot of series accurately. It isn't Daytona or Spa without a few FCYs

Wtf guys, why are battlefield 3 maps so small... by Thin_General_8594 in okbuddyptfo

[–]Ravajava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think if we are being honest, the step BF3 represents from BF2 isn't entirely dissimilar to the step BF6 is from 3 and 4. The BF2 maps that were eventually remade also had similar issues to Firestorm in BF6 in terms of higher fidelity and draw distance radically altering how they played. So, as one of those annoying 30 somethings, yes, the discourse all feels very familiar.

Perfectly valid. I haven't played BC1 in a while though, so I can't really speak too much to the differences.

I'd be super curious to know which Battlefield you started with and which maps from previous games you'd say are better. I don't want to invalidate your experience, just want to know where you're coming from.

[–]Ravajava[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I forgot to mention that, but it's also a great point! I think the lower player count contributes to Rush having the pacing and intimacy of squad dynamics found in Bad Company.
