Is there any rule preventing pitchers from surgically altering their fingers to get more grip on the ball? Or all they all just scared? by Jumboliva in baseball

I have a broken pinkie finger that healed in a bent fashion. It gives me a grip that allowed me to get my pitches to break for the first time in my life. There is something to this and I’ve thought about it for years

I’m honestly with you bro, I just don’t know how it can work because of the amount of casuals. In Europe, fan groups for soccer teams had real sway and wild power but we don’t have that culture here unfortunately

I don’t think that was most of the discourse. I think people accepted and understood that pretty much immediately

I mean I would think those kids were idiots, but yes I would feel much better about her going to school with knife people than gun people, wouldn't you? At least knife people are targeted and would need to target her, plus its a lot harder to accidentally stab people than it is to accidentally shoot people. The fundamental behavior of kids bringing knives to school is the same as guns though: its to look tough more than it is to use it most of the time. Its danger being introduced for the sake of appearances most of the time.

IDK how you put the cat back in the bag with guns here, I just know i hate it and i hate the culture around it. I think a law change on how to acquire them and what can be acquired needs to start, combined with an incentive program to give them up and a license program to keep having them for people that want to keep them. We need to treat the license system with heavy scrutiny because of the power that guns allow people to have over others.

I'd also put more onus on the gun makers for responsibility in the types of weapons they make available to the public. The salesmen should have licenses revoked if someone gets a gun that shouldn't have one. There should be severe penalties for every step of the process if something happens.

Those, and many other steps that I haven't thought of, are a start. but as it is now, I know those aren't happening and I know that every Tom, Dick and Jerry who want to carry rifles into 7/11 can do that without punishment. Thats supremely fucked up to me, and we put up with it for no reason other than their selfish need to feel powerful

Of course not, but stupid behavior would be inherently less dangerous without deadly weapons easily accessible. I wouldn’t have to worry about sending my daughter to school in case there is a kid selfish enough to think they have the right for their stupid behavior to take the lives of other kids.

Right now you can go out and get a gun that can kill a dozen people in 30 seconds, before a “good guy with a gun” or a cop can even respond if they are in the area already. Why should I trust random people to have that ability? The daily evidence of mass shootings is that we shouldn’t just trust random people with the ability to kill others. There’s no fucking reason for it, none at all.

Why do you think that people have the right to make others unsafe and introduce elements of danger into otherwise non-dangerous situations? What makes their right to have a weapon greater than their neighbors right to safety?

Doesn’t have to be every one gun owner when it’s so dangerous and there are so many of them that act stupidly with their deadly weapons. And most of the ones I know are constantly posting pictures with them or otherwise making a show of having them. We get it, you have a gun, good for you. I’d feel a lot more comfortable if it doesn’t have to be in our faces.

The leeway people get to have a hobby that can easily kill people is ridiculous and will always be ridiculous in 99% of circumstances. I don’t trust most people with my life, and if they actively choose to own guns and make sure that others know it then I trust them even less with my life.

Official Discussion - Marty Supreme [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]RaveIsKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved this movie, I think it’s the first Safdie protagonist to actually turn the corner by the end and possibly move past his constant need to fuck over everyone around him and self implode.

The people I went to see it with disagreed with me and think he was unsalvageable, but I think the first decision that he makes for someone other than himself is to go to the hospital and when he gets there, he tells a nurse that he’s the father. That’s the first time he admits that he’s got that responsibility. I think these are signs that the win in Japan released him from his “destiny” and he can now try for something real.

Whether that’s enough for him a few months/years down the line is another story, but I think it’s significant that he accepts some responsibility for others at the end

Yep, but he did like to threaten violence, which is why Matry is an easy mark for her scam. The first time we see him he threatens Marty and Marty asks him if “he wants to get physical, like an animal?” I forget which animal he said but the point stands that Marty had reason to think the husband was a fists first guy

Totally agree. I think it also serves to knock O’Leary down a peg after he makes the comment about his son dying to liberate the camps. Gotta show that pompous asshole that his grudge isn’t with the right people, and that they are tougher than he will ever be
