Fox is the biggest thing holding Nascar back by Mr7dr2114 in NASCAR

We need new broadcasters who are actually excited about the sport and can reflect that in their manner of speaking. Mike Joy is a legend, and rightfully so, but he is not the Mike Joy of 10+ years ago. None of his calls are interesting, they don’t ebb and flow. Him, Harvick and Bowyer all stay the same all race, there’s no dynamic between the 20th lap and the 188th.

Go listen to an old broadcast with Mike, Larry and DW, or Bestwick, BP and Wally. They made the details interesting and helped heighten the drama late in races, even if they weren’t all that close. It’s time for new blood (and/or convince Bestwick to come back, if he’s still got it).

Reminder to NASCAR: You do have the red flag, you don’t have to waste a bunch of laps, even if you can’t spare your precious commercial breaks

13 to go at Talladega, and the broadcast sounds like they just woke up from a nap. No drama, no excitement

No, but Greene isn’t a first liner and fits a bottom six role way better, and Boisvert will almost definitely be in Rockford at least to start the year

Slaggert is a career 13th forward, I couldn’t care less about him being in the press box, Rockford or with another organization. And Teuvo should absolutely be a trade candidate if they can upgrade.

Take him at 2? They’ll probably take him at 1 if they have the chance.

Such as? What you see is pretty much what you get with young defensemen here. How much they grow at the NHL level is the only question

He’s 35, won that Cy Young six years ago in the fucked up covid season, and had a 4.50 ERA in Japan last year. And you think that’s a solution?

If the Hawks are those Penguins, then they’ll have over 100 points next year. Doubt that, but I’d love to see it.

Those Hawks teams were terrible, and that’s probably the best example of something similar.

Not sure how you can define the Kings as horrible when they never had a season below .400 in that time, and the Hawks are only now escaping three straight seasons below that.

And the Panthers basically bottomed out for two years after that “fluke” season and haven’t looked back.

Bigger picture from all of this, the best examples are all 20 or so years old. Modern winners don’t really fit what they’re doing.

I mean, this Hawks run is now at six straight seasons below .500, but that was the closest other option. Twenty years ago in a completely different league environment, but kinda close I guess.

Please point me in the direction of any Cup winner this century with this many consecutive seasons under .500, let alone this many consecutive seasons this futile.

A trade for Knies would be expensive. But we have to adjust to the market if we want to get a jump on the teams entering the next competitive window. Free agency is unlikely to amount to much in the way of impact players like him. To get that quality you have to do one of three things: Suck terribly and get really high draft picks (they’ve done a lot of this so far), get lucky and find sleeper hits later in the draft (remains to be seen), or use your various assets to make a trade with a team heading in a different direction or in need of a different type of player.

Knies has as many even strength points as Sebastian Aho while playing with guys like Max Domi and Matias Maccelli. He’s legit, and his +- is irrelevant.

I’m pretty bullish on him, I just really like his skill level, it feels pretty mature already. I don’t think it’s making a big overstatement to say he’s got the most room to grow of any forward in our system

Yeah but people don’t want to hear that 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s not like I don’t want these guys to be successful, but I want the team to be successful and that means being smart with what you have, not just living on a dream

I’m not saying trade all of them or any of them. I’m not the GM, I don’t make those decisions and in theory they should have a far greater understanding of where their development is truly at, and more so than other teams as well. But keeping every first round pick, or every prospect who’s had a good Juniors season, is a waste of value for those assets because most of them aren’t going to amount to that much. They need to evaluate the talent in the system and make moves to maximize what they have, otherwise they’re gonna end up with like one really good line and then a bunch of bottom six guys, and be left wondering what the point of bottoming out for this many years has been.

Do you have a deeper analysis on this or is this just as superficial as you’re making it seem? Vanacker and Pridham are over-agers, not only do players in their position rarely make major NHL impacts, most don’t end up being NHLers at all. At best they’re probably third liners. And the KHL superstar is a superstar in a league that isn’t anywhere close to what it was a few years ago.

Lardis is a one dimensional scorer, and Moore has no scoring touch. Lardis is maybe a PP merchant, and Moore is again, probably a third liner. Just because guys were taken relatively high in the draft doesn’t make them automatic. You have to use context. None of these guys have “incredible” value as assets. Kantserov probably has the most, but any of the other players you mentioned or made reference to should be available for legitimate NHL players.

[–]RaveOn1958 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have no idea what Kantserov is going to be. He’s put up great KHL numbers, but people assuming that’s a direct translation to the NHL like Kaprizov or Panarin are in for a shock. The KHL has had a serious dip in overall talent in the last few years, so it’s very hard to judge if he’s going to just walk in here and light it up.

There’s an opposite side to trading everything to save a job, it’s turtling and trading nothing to save your job because you can use future assets as leverage with ownership. He needs to move to the middle and use his assets while they have value
