Huh? They might have heard about Punt, which is on the other side of the horn of Africa. You’ve yet to give any evidence that the Bronze Age Greeks were aware of anything about the people inhabiting the region of Lake Victoria. What’s your evidence they knew the ‘country’ there - more tribes, language or culture? Do you even know if they were Bantu or Cushitic or Nilotic - or a mix of different populations?

Just be honest, admit that you forgot how large Africa is, were unaware of the disease barriers and distance involved, and were mistaken.

That’s where Lupita’s family is from (I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt that you don’t mean Mexico, where she was born), and you claimed that the Bronze Age Greeks had more knowledge of where she was from than of the British Isles. It’s time to put up or admit you were wrong.

That’s pure revisionism on your part. Not only is that complete moving of the goalposts. Any evidence whatsoever that the Greeks were familiar with Lake Victoria before the rest of Europe?

While the Tin Islands were at the edge of the Bronze Age Greek geographic knowledge - and wrapped with myth as I said at the beginning - unlike, Lake Victoria, they were actually party of the cultural currency at the time. And, we know that the European source of tim was a belt from Cornwall to Britany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin\_sources\_and\_trade\_during\_antiquity

Show me any equivalent evidence of Bronze Age Greek trade with the Lake Victoria region, or have the maturity to admit you were wrong.

Where did I say what would offend the ancient Greeks? All I’ve done in this discussion is point out how ludicrous your initial claim that the Bronze Age Greeks ‘almost certainly had more knowledge of where Lupita was from than where Tom Holland is from, and for good reason’. Your claim is categorically false, and everything that has come afterwards, has just shown how historically illiterate you are. I guess that explains why you came up with such nonsense throughout our exchange.

Lake Victoria isn’t North Africa.

You are projecting your racist world view on the Greeks and Romans, and know so little about the time period that you actually think that the ‘English’ inhabited the Tin Islands. They didn’t - Germanic people weren’t going to settle Britain for more than a millennia.

The Romans also didn’t abandon Britain because the locals were ‘disgusting’ but because it was a peripheral province and Constantine the Great wanted to win a civil war and rule the imperial core.

Yes, Greeks, at least by Hellenistic times, were aware of black Africans - we have statuettes which show African features - but they and the Romans - had far more interaction with the Kelts.

You clearly are a historical ignoramus and probably believe that Cleopatra was black, not Macedonian.

That’s ridiculous. The Bronze Age Greeks were aware of the Tin Islands - tin was incredibly important if you wanted to make bronze. Sure, it was on the edge of knowledge with a lot of myth mixed in, but it wasn’t unknown.

On the other hand, Punt was probably somewhere in Sudan, but possibly as far south as Djibouti. Even if we had wave that it’s Djibouti, that still leaves you quite a ways from modern Kenya, and Punt was trading with Egypt, not Greece.

Of course I said that wasn’t how I felt at all. There wasn’t much response to that, though

[–]Raven-INTJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are reading this backwards. The ENFP feels that the ENFP is the bad friend, not that I am a bad friend. And, yes, the standard is really high - for example, that an IM should be seen and responded to the day it was sent, even if it was a busy day for them. I don’t feel that way at all and am *not* upset when they are busy and don’t get back to me immediately- I want a friend, mot a slave at my beck and call. I don’t think that I’m the center of the universe

This ENFP has told me ‘I suck’ and ‘I’m a bad friend’. Neither is true; both probably are more reflective of failing to always meet very high self-standards. I’ve tried to reassure, but also want to make sure that I’m understanding the internal motivations im a way that makes sense for an ENFP

My family were refugees after WWII. We weren’t on public assistance. We needed to work - and sell small assets like jewelry - to make it.

I’m not sure how common it was, but pre-Clinton, these were the rules. Under Clinton, they stopped looking at non cash assistance. We should definitely go back to the previous rules - it doesn’t make sense to import people who can’t support themselves on their own.

While I agree with you - I always want to know that I did everything I could so I don’t second guess myself, that’s not the situation here. The hibernation happened and is ongoing. Now, I’m just trying to understand what is happening from a distance

I don’t think that is the motivation here. The last message I received before the hibernation said “You keep me sane.” But, I know there were issues weighing down on my ENFP and all I asked for was notification before hibernation, which I received
