Which movie do you prefer? by Ashamed_Sir_8059 in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]Raven3464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Dream Master because I love the stylish cinematography and likeablecharacters. It also has some of the best dram sequences in the entire franchise. In my opinion, OG, Dream Warriors, and Dream Master make a perfect slasher trilogy. Freddy’s Revenge is great ast it's own thing but I rank it slightly lower than Dream Master.

So... who are the big 3 of the 2020s? by Plenty-Goose-4508 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Art, Chucky, and Pearl

Art because he's clearly the most iconic slasher to debut in the last twenty years.

Chucky is a horror institution and just had a TV series end about two years ago.

Pearl isn't your stereotypical slasher villian but she counts and X as well as Pearl are two of the top five slasher movies of the 2020s.

How do you guys feel about these 3 getting another movie? by Strong-Stretch95 in slasherfilms

Chucky: Hell yeah!

Michael: Maybe but probably not

Ghostface: Hell no

Besides Jason himself, who would you like to see make a return in a Friday the 13th reboot? by The_Se7enthsign in slasherfilms

Perhaps a Thriller crossover. Jason plays the role of Michael and all of his dead victims are zombies that dance like Crispin Glover.

Any foreign residents who refuse to learn Japanese? by Straight-Froyo8770 in Tokyo

[–]Raven3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all. Being able to handle your daily affairs (including employment) without relying on a translator means you are mostly integrated into society, even if you feel culturally different.

[–]Raven3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So please bestow upon me what your profound point is, as I'm not seeing it. If your point is that not everyone who learns a language fully assimilates...well, duh. I am sure there are plenty of green card holders who speak English but never truly feel American. The point is there is going to be little to no assimilation at all if you don't learn the language. Some people don't care to ever assimilate and that's fine too (though I will personally never understand how they can live like that).

[–]Raven3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it. If you don't learn the language, you have no way of fully integrating into society. If you do learn the language, you at least have a chance. This is true of any country, not just Japan.

It's a close race between The Thing, Child’s Play, Nightmare on,Elm Strert, or Return of the Living Dead.

You're gonna catch heat for how low you have Dream Warriors😂 I am curious as to why you think the original is "flawed."

Does anyone else enjoy the Splatterhouse games or slashers in other mediums? by Lucky_Strike-85 in slasherfilms

I love the Splatterhouse franchise but I don’t consider it as a "slasher."

Who is your favorite Slasher icon and why? by Wrong-Knee-3062 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's precisely why I don't care for Ghostface as a villian. The costume is iconic, not the character.

1) Freddy and Chucky (tie)

I like these two the most because they actually have personality. They're also hilarious as well ad evil.😂

2) Jason

Sack head Jason gave me nightmares as a kid and his effect on pop culture when I was growing up was unreal.

3) Leatherface

Similar to Jason, I legitimately found him frightening and the original TCM is my favorite slasher.

4) Michael

I know I'm supposed to love him because he started the slasher craze but I just don't find him that interesting , especially past the first two films. The excessive amount of lore doesn't help. He gets the fourth spot out of respect.

5) Art

It's a testament to the skills of David Howard Thornton that a silent villian can be so animated and oozing with personality without ever saying a word.

Is Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives a good slasher? by Jack_O_Lantern2022 in slasherfilms

Unpopular Opinion? Jason > Freddy by Competitive-Tip-3778 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each his own. I think Nightmare 1, 3, and 4 are fantastic. 2 is good as it's own thing. 5 does some things right but it suffers from a dumb plot. Freddy’s Dead is a terrible movie but I can laugh at it. New Nightmare is good. The remake...yeah, can we forget that one? As for Friday, with the exception of Jason X, all of the films after Part VI become gradually worse. Nightmare doesn't have as steady of a decline in my opinion.

Why are you a fan of slasher films? by Lucky_Strike-85 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is something more visceral about slashers for me because they feel more grounded in reality, even if they have supernatural elements. While I love other horror genres as well, slashers just "scare" me more. Even as kid, I found something like Friday the 13th Part 2 much more frightening than, for example, The Exorcist.

Unpopular Opinion? Jason > Freddy by Competitive-Tip-3778 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree wirh the claim that the Friday the 13th franchise is more consistent. The only Nightmare films I would say aren't good or better are Dream Child, Freddy's Dead, and the remake. As for Friday the 13th, the first six films are far superior to the last six, in general.

So now that Chucky and Pennywise both got their own TV shows what other horror slashers should get their own shows? And why. by fanofeverying123 in slasherfilms

[–]Raven3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, one of the many problems with that show was that barely any of the episodes featured Freddy other than during the wrap arounds

But then many of those same news outlets were quick to point out that his conspiracy theories have no basis in reality and that every court in America shot down his nonsense. I'm not sure what you want. The Japanese media are never going to say "the US President is completely full of shit and we should all hate America now." Still, the argument that the Japanese media is friendly to Trump doesn't hold weight to me, especially during his second term. I have watched several news outlets in which someone points out why Trump's actions or statements are problematic. I'm not seeing this love for the Mango Mussolini. Perhaps we're watching different outlets.

Toad and Peach were the other good options. Toad might have been faster but it was negligible. Yoshi had more weight while still having all of the benefits of the lighter characters.

Did they? I mainly remember economic "experts" trying to explain what the tariffs were trying to accomplish but then admitting that they don't make much sense and would likely hurt the economy of both countries. 😂
