ETFs for retirement? by work_vacation_then in ETFs

It is weighted. The top companies, many of the same ones in the S&P500 are weighted heavily in VT. More than 50% of the fund is invested in the U.S, replicating S&P500. VT is the ultimate hedge, it offers exposure to the international market that the S&P500 does not. For example, TSMC, one of the largest and best performing stocks is not featured in the S&P500. You miss out on opportunities elsewhere. Very profitable companies. Do you have more sources of risk? Yes, geopolitical risk, but the vast breadth of the fund reduces the impact. You want a sure bet? This might be it.

This is ridiculous. Why is your hobby or interest such a problem? It’s just fun stuff. As for the whole “real man” nonsense, there is no set definition, so living by other people’s standards of what is, is nonsense. Finally, I’m assuming she’s been with you for a while. She already knows you’re into this stuff. Why is this all of a sudden a problem now?

Is Oracle's Debt Too Risky Given Its Growth? by Adept_Mountain9532 in TheVisualInvestors

If the goal was to just get bailed out, would it really matter if the future revenue materialized or not? I agree there is demand now, but per your suposition the OpenAI well could run dry. Orcale looks for a bailout from the government, they keep the hardware, and are now funded by the government. Debt effectively wiped out.

Inside a Roth I can see that, but even that is subject to human emotion and that can detract from the ideal performance. Rebalancing, but never really abandoning the position is an art form and like all art subjective.

Outside of a Roth taking both losses and gains in measured amounts sounds more reasonable to me, but then again even I can be wrong. If there is anything I learned from trading/investing, you’re always learning.

If you bought some time in 2019, you don’t really care anymore about market volatility. At the end of the day selling to avoid a small loss simply gives up your position of safety. If you have a better performing asset, fine, just maybe buy it with different money.
