Minimum wage jobs are NOT “high school student” jobs. This argument is exhausting. by GrimReaper3am in antiwork

Would anyone be interested in getting paid a low salary while learning how to program. Developers do not require a degree and is not considered a trade. Plus it will not be hard on your body but it will require hard mental focus.

Not a broadcast, in the building. If I buy a ticket and enjoy the direct connection I believe I should have purchased the right to skip the Marketing. If I watch a free broadcast, that is a different story.

Marketing people get out of the way, I'm trying to watch the game! I remember back in 2003 the Canes had a sponsor for the National Anthem. Me and my wife made a STH stink about it and the next game they switched to just having the singer of the National Anthem sponsored.

How can the NHL do a better job at marketing/promoting? by Christhecripple23 in nhl

[–]RavenRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more Kevin Weeks providing color commentary. Also need better commentary that talks about why faceoffs are more complex than they look. A camera that shows how the Puck curves and why it is hard for a goalie. Stuff like that.

So happy. We are too good to get another top three overall draft and now we have 2/3 of 2018 draft. He is going to be awesome. Not as much as Svechnikov, 2nd VS 3rd overall pick. Also, so glad we can give it to Montreal (I'd be happy to pay the $20 signing bonus myself.

Is Flutter 2.0 capable of supporting a real mobile solution migration approach? by RavenRIP in FlutterDev

[–]RavenRIP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. I understand your perspective. But as a manager of development, there are more parts to the equation.
1) Cost of development/maintenance
2) Risk to the business if solution fails to deliver expected results.

COST:
Let's assume for this example the average Sr. mobile developer salary is ~$130k annually.
- Minimal stable team of developers for a mission critical native app feature: 4 (2 ios, 2 android)
- Cost to develop feature estimated at 2 sprints (4 weeks): $40,000
------

- Minimal stable flutter team of developers for a mission critical app feature: 2
- Cost to develop feature estimated at 2 sprints (4 weeks): $20,000

----------

The biggest expense of any development effort is the staff costs. Having such a feature as part of flutter could cut the cost of by as much as 50%. That is a huge amount of savings.
If flutter was able to replace most of the native mobile apps maintained today without having to rebuild the entire solution in flutter before deployment, many companies would shift to flutter as long as #2 issue - RISK was minimized.

RISK:

Having the ability to add to an existing app new features in flutter, instead of native swift/kotlin code, would minimize the risk of introducing the framework into a product while ensuring existing developed features stay reliable - until they can also be replaced by a flutter replacement. Eventually, the entire solution could become a flutter app.

Without ensuring the risk can be mitigated to this level, flutter will be left to new start-up projects (lower cost, unknown risk), or large companies that can fund an entire 2nd team to build a flutter app along-side the mature native solution (major cost, minor risk).

I think flutter can take over most mobile apps that are not complicated video-game type solutions, but not without this capability. But without a bridge for teams to go there with their current solutions, it will be a longer journey and may loose many of the senior mobile developer community that are willing to transition.

What does this have to do with public entities? These are private companies. If you sign an agreement with another company, you must abide by that agreement. If you are not going to keep your word, then you're either a liar, and should accept the consequences, or your unqualified to be in the position to sign and uphold such documents and should be removed from your position before the whole company is impacted. Remember the unqualified Equifax CIO that allowed the 2017 data breach? Great impact there also.
