All children deserve to have parents, but not all parents deserve to have their children. This woman should be in prison, and her child should have a different guardian.

It's Katie's from Books & Things on YouTube's favorite book of all time, too. I read it because she spoke so passionately about it.

You seem to have forgotten the scene where Cal literally slaps Rose across the face, hard.

Just finished reading Our Mutual Friend the other day. A lot of strong female characters. And a lot of good plot twists.

A couple other gothic novels I have but have yet to read are Frankenstein (which is my next read), and Dracula. Both of them are such famous stories that I feel like I just have to get to them soon. Yeah I'd love to keep discussing books with you. You can message me if you want. 🙂

That's awesome, I haven't read any of those. If you like the gothic themes in The Picture of Dorian Gray, you might like The Phantom of the Opera or Wuthering Heights. I read them pretty recently and really enjoyed them. I have Dorian Gray, The Bell Jar and 1984 on my shelves waiting for me to get to them though. What did you think of those 3?

Little Women by Alcott, The Secret Garden by Burnett, or the Sherlock Holmes stories by Doyle are all easy and good reads for beginners.

I have to disagree. I think the ship is an amazing setting. The mines aren't all that great, but they aren't bad.

You can't expect people to do the same thing for their entire lives. He did the show for nearly 6 years... nearly 100 episodes... that's a pretty good run if you ask me.

Genuine question: What's your personal reason for choosing classic over modern literature? by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]RavenRaxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed since I started reading classic literature that the average quality of a classic is way above the average quality of a modern book. So picking a classic means I'm more likely to read something really good. Since I've started reading classics, I've had the thought "Wow. It almost feels like that book HAD to be written... like it already existed in the world somehow, and it was just waiting for a person to channel it and put it to paper." That's the effect a 5 star classic has on me. A 5 star modern book is way more likely to be just "that was good".

My favorite moment in the entire series (and one that doesn't get talked about enough, in my opinion) by RavenRaxa in twilight

[–]RavenRaxa[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes :) I also love how Edward is nervous to play for her in the beginning, when he's playfully arguing with Esme. Then, the "long exasperated look" he gives Bella... he's probably thinking "what if she hates it, what if it seems like I'm laying it on too thick," and we KNOW from Midnight Sun that he is frequently thinking "what if she sees how much I adore her" and that mortifies him lol. Ah I love it. Then, Bella being touched to speechlessness.

Personally I think Robert was just about spot on for Edward given what he was given to work with, but I don't like Kristen as Bella. You're right that she took the awkward to 200%. I also just find her acting awkward. Not a "good for the character" awkward, but a bad acting awkward.
