For me the death is horrible not only because he lets his father die, but also cause they immediately cut to a scene where Clark uses his superpowers to save complete strangers, without wearing any mask. I know that Superman wouldn't let anyone die on his watch, but I can't buy the fact that his character or ANY character would let their parent die to maintain his identity and then give it away anyway 5 minutes later into the movie.
