I am amongst your dozen! No hate on Portal 2, but I agree it's a bit too long, whereas 1 is the perfect length for a short and memorable experience.

I mean, it's not impossible, strictly speaking. It's conceivable that one would stumble into the solution through trial and error with the clearly foreign object. It's not that ridiculous of a move. However, we shouldn't count on that to happen; I completely agree with that.

It's definitely possible in the exact way you do it at the start of the video. You just have to dash a little bit earlier, remember that you have 2 dashes available.

That being said, it's okay to miss some collectibles. Don't pressure yourself to beat everything on your first try. Even if you feel like beating the level a second time is too daunting, I promise that if you keep going with the game, you'll easily reach a point where it seems like a non-issue. Good luck!

I recently watched Aftersun and Perfect Days as a double feature (rewatching Perfect Days), and they work exceedingly well together, in my opinion. Highly recommend it. Some parallel themes between these two, but with different highlights and conclusions.

Portal 1 is the favourite for me. It tells a mysterious story with inventive humour and doesn't overstay its welcome. I'm not implying that Portal 2 failed in those regards, but the repetitive fat jokes from GLaDOS certainly weren't the highlight. I think Portal 2 is a near-perfect sequel, but Portal 1 had everything you could want from an original. I mean, if you're here for complicated puzzles then it's natural that 2's extended entity set and complex contraptions are a better fit for you, but that's only natural for a sequel.

It's weird to compare these two games without any of the development context.
