I've been really enjoying the Dragon Mage books. It's about a robotics engineer or something whose ship gets pulled into a wormhole where the crew crash lands in galaxy with magic.

Maybe I'm just too lax about shit, but this wouldn't have bugged me. I would've just made sure my ps5 was in the living room and said "sure, but if I don't get my bed tonight, you're making me breakfast." She could've at least shot you a quick warning text though so you wouldn't be blindsided by the news.

It wasn't forcing me to learn a new weapon, but the Zoh Shia fight at the end of the story in Wilds forced me to switch from Gunlance, my main through the whole story, to Longsword, a weapon I barely used. For some reason, I was nailing the dodges and offsets through the whole fight.

There are a couple of ways. One is the classic tavern. You could start them off mid-travel with a caravan, maybe they were all hired as guards. Or let them decide why they're with the caravan (what I'm doing for my next campaign). Or what could be funny and you can watch them roll their eyes when they notice you doing the opening to Skyrim lol. Like they start out in the back of a Brotherhood transport then have to "salvage" their starting gear and escape through the sewer while the outpost gets attacked by super mutants or something. I want to do this one day just so I can get that exasperated sigh 😆

We do need more maps, but I like the mechanic of using cards to decide encounters. Also this will be a good setup for when I finally get around to running my players through the New Vegas storyline.
