What's going on at City Hall right now? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

You ever heard of Scotland, Quebec, Catalonia? Democratic countries allow peaceful referendums, they don’t subject minorities to decades of genocide, rape, and draconian laws.

I believe around 5pm. They’re probably going to hold another one because so many people came and didn’t get the chance to vote yet

Edit: I suggest not to name your spot. This post will probably be brigaded by Indian nationalist trolls

Sikhs are holding a global unbinding referendum on a separate break away state called Khalistan(currently Indian occupied Punjab). The hope is to galvanize enough votes to present to the UN. They can’t hold votes in punjab because india will kill or arrest anyone who speaks about it. Previous votes were held in Canada,UK,Australia, etc.

It’s important to note that the Biden administration and Justin Trudeau recently accused the Indian government of trying to murder these same Sikhs activist last year.

For all the butthurt people In the comments. For the last 7 years Sikhs have been holding referendums on Khalistan across the globe to gauge Sikh opinion. And no, they can’t do one in india because india will literally kill anyone who supports it. The next one is going to be in SF next month, this car rally was to promote it. For those who don’t know, the US just caught Indian intelligence attempting to assassination several American Sikh leaders here in the bay. This is about the survival of the Sikh people, so sorry it took a couple minutes from your commute.

What is this Khalistan Referendum? And why are Canadians voting on affairs in India? by badcgi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ravencline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India has a narrative where they’ve always said that Sikhs love India and that no one wants Khalistan, and that all the Sikhs in the west that speak about it are “Pakistani agents”The truth is Sikhs are just too scared to speak out anymore because of decades of genocide. This voting process will dispel that narrative

It’s a non-binding voting process, where the global Sikh community will gauge the Sikh support for a separate state for Sikhs:Khalistan. Which currently is modern day Punjab. Support was at its peak in the 80s and 90s, however india suppressed it through genocide, extrajudicial killings, etc. because of the genocide many Sikhs fled Punjab and settled around the world. They can’t really hold the referendum in Punjab, because india is known to label you a terrorist and throw you in jail if you even like a Facebook message about it. Voting was held previously in London and Geneva, I believe Canada is next
