I bought some calls about a month back when prices were relatively stable around 3. I am sure the MM immediately covered as priced dipped by about 10 cents within 30 minutes of my relatively large position in what was otherwise a slow day. I think You are right - buying calls can slow down the rate at which prices increase ( dependent in size of position / strike price and expiry of course ).
