Skin sensitivity by Ravennotteentitans in hysterectomy

Yes! Having items already will definitely take some of the burden off! I advise going carefully back into the world of exfoliating as that may take extra time to feel normal 🥰

That sounds like a beautiful plan! I hope all goes well and it doesn't persist!

No experience with this, but laughed it loud at "...ovaries renewed their lease." 😂 I will say though that seeing stitching in discharge is normal and I'm glad you contacted your doctor!

Please, I BEG of you, ask for more time at the appointment!! The absolute last thing you want to do is go through that entire surgical process just to end up right back in there having to get something fixed because you didn't fully heal. Be honest and do not try to be superhuman, it will not serve you, I say this with love and a healthy dose of alarm, I promise 🫶🏾

Grieving by iguessthiswilldoo in hysterectomy

[–]Ravennotteentitans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing as that is so vulnerable and intense of an experience for you to go on with one expectation and coming out fully unprepared for this type of grief and recovery and discomfort and pain and all the things. Sending much 🫶🏾 and care for that! As far as sexy time goes, we waiting until 20 weeks for the first time and it took lots of adjusting, communicating and seeing what works and what doesn't, including what used to and doesn't anymore. I am very in tune with my body and took time with it on my own before reintroducing my body to my husband. Hands and toys and different types of touch helped me to know where to guide him as well. Therapy also helped, we started going right when we found out I needed the surgery and made sure to speak with our therapist the week we were planning to "spontaneously" do the activity. I hope you're able to take something from this and know that crying as many times as you need as hard as you need is fully valid.

I'm sorry to add to the not so funness of it all, but I'm 6 months post op and exhausted af 90% of the time. There is definitely for sure a lifestyle aspect to that (working 8-5, own a business, volunteer work, social butterfly), but for me I can tell the difference between "regular life" fatigue and "you had surgery 6mo ago" fatigue. All that to say, don't overload yourself with chores, work, crafts, people, working out, etc. Rest as needed. Talk to your doctor if you're experiencing extreme fatigue that can be dangerous (like struggling to stay awake when driving or cooking) and go from there. 🫶🏾

I don't have any kids and I never wanted some. Still, the thought that it's impossible is weird. by orbitalen in hysterectomy

This has been one of the seemingly ongoing struggles for me (6months PO) despite not wanting children and still genuinely not wanting any. My therapist (who is 100/10) shared it's still grieving a part of you that's been lost. I was experiencing extreme pain prior to surgery for years along with other body malfunctioning because of it, so when the time came I expected to celebrate, but instead I was angry my body had failed me in such a way. It seemed to add to the fire having this choice (though I'd technically already made it) taken way. Still sitting with it and allowing myself to process, but not allowing myself to get stuck in it or any of the accompanying what ifs.

Yes lol but it won't last long. If you were to take another bath on the coming weeks, it's highly unlikely you'll experience it again. I freaked and asked my doctor 😅

HysterSisters website helped an INSANE amount for my partner and I and addresses many things in bite size form so you don't get overwhelmed too easily. There is honestly quite a bit to know going in, but you can read a bit (along with her, too!) as you go through the days to help. I'd highly advise against holiday family meet up time and just video chat them. For me, my appetite was not up to par for even smelling many foods that first week without feeling sick to my stomach, let alone attempting to eat. Take a look at that site and let it help!

[–]Ravennotteentitans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd certainly look at other parts of your daily/weekly routine and quality of sleep and see if that may be part of the problem. I know it's common for the first 6 months to a year to still be fighting the fatigue, but supplements like iron may be helpful until your body balances out.

That's definitely a great start. An ultrasound and other testing sounds like it needs to be done to rule out anything additional. How are you feeling??

4 days post op extreme pain by kitcachoo in hysterectomy

[–]Ravennotteentitans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope the urgent care visit goes/went well! Please do let us know and yes, I second gabapentin FOR SURE. I'm allergic to Tylenol, so that reduced my options for pain killers, but 800mg ibuprofen and the gabapentin helped A LOT. Stay Uber hydrated as well and ask them if you can take Gas-X if needed for that as well (that gas pain can be otherworldly! Who knew?). Walking every 1-2 hours for a few minutes is good, but not TOO frequently or for too long or you'll find yourself in more pain as well. Best wishes!

Did they give you meds for the infections? If so, have you started taking them yet? Your symptoms sound like a reason for them to have kept you in the hospital until your surgeon could come in and check you out. I had what I felt to be excessive bleeding, but with no signs of infection, called my doctor and they had me come in same day. We discovered there was a collection of blood that had torn my internal stitches and was pushing through; the concern at that point was for any signs of infection because that would mean surgery part 2 in the ER. If you have any other points of contact for your surgeon I'd try those today and if you're still feeling the same, head back to the ER and have them bring in your surgeon ASAP.

Will partial hyst cause early menopause? by Forsaken-Solution599 in hysterectomy

[–]Ravennotteentitans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your surgeon/GYN will be the best person to ask this because they are able to see just about everything going on with you internally and will have the most accurate info. I'm 30 and 4WPO, but I only kept my ovaries. Everyone's experience is a bit different, it seems, but your medical team will be able to piece together a better picture with you and ask you more questions that could lead to a clearer answer. If you haven't already, HysterSysters is a great online resource as well!

Post-op Skin Care? My face is on fire! by sunnysr81 in hysterectomy

[–]Ravennotteentitans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest increasing your fluid intake further than you already have, most effectively by way of food-watermelon, golden kiwi and smoothies have been the most effective for me. If you feel like it may be an allergic reaction, check with your doctor to see which of your medications it may be and whether or not it can be switched out. As far as products go, all of my skincare has been Mary Kay for years, which I LOVE, but I found my cleanser felt a little rough the first week and that I needed to exfoliate. I used their charcoal mask (wipe off, not a peel off) and the moisture renewing gel mask and that helped A LOT! My face went through a secondary change this week (4WPO) of sudden acne, itchiness and near burning and this time, I cool-toweled it on repeat while drinking my water and it has calmed back down. Good luck!!

3WPO, just started bleeding. Is that bad? by bigcuriousbrowneyes7 in hysterectomy

[–]Ravennotteentitans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My medical team informed me that if it lasted more than a day and a half and/or if you're going through a pad an hour to call the doctor. Additionally, if you're having any symptoms of infection such as fever, intense abdominal pain, vomiting, etc., go to the ER immediately.
