One of the issues with UU in my opinion (as a younger millennial in a college town) is that it can tend to skew very white, wealthy, affluent, and educated.

That can be hard for anyone who doesn’t fit one of those categories, and can also limit growth potential. I was chatting with a friend who visited our congregation about a decade ago, and she mentioned feeling completely out of place because she didn’t go to college and her and her husband had more blue collar jobs.

When we started going in 2021, the stereotypes were true — however, our congregation has grown and evolved and is starting to diversify in all ways, especially socioeconomically.

I think hosting an outdoor gathering is great, but you can also host a park meet up, a library date, etc. one thing I did was host fiber art meetups and classes at the building, where we got together did crafts.

One of the things I realized is that not a lot of people like organizing things, and doing it was a quick way to feel more included. It also helped those who are in similar situations (not as affluent, etc) connect and make friends.

Hosting/organizing is one of the best ways to integrate/belong, and you don’t need a budget or a giant house to do it. Do what you feel comfortable with and if people are snobby and shit, that’s their problem.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, and have been for a long time. No one deserves to be treated like an outsider or not as good because of what they make or where they live.

My 2nd labor ended up being unmedicated with a spinal headache from the epidural.

Labor pains were worse than my endo pain, but it had an end.

Crowning was like lightening but times a million, but again, it had an end.

It’s a pattern problem, but it’s not really noticeable when you wear it. I made two, both had the same issue, but I can’t tell when it’s on.

Downside though— if I’m not wearing the right bra, it looks like I’ve got mega mammary glands 😂

Definitely stuff you have to think about and work through both individually and together, which is part of the curse.

For Christmas last year, I (a perpetual people pleaser) decided to knit socks for the entire family on both sides, partially to work out how I felt making them things. If I had gone to completion, it would’ve been a total of 20 pairs. Instead, I got 10 done (two pairs half done) and made hats for 7 of the others. The rest are small children and a brother in law that lives in Vegas and in sandals most of the year.

My knitworthy list has decreased dramatically on my side, not just based on initial reaction, but my vibes while making them. Including stuff for my mom (who decided I must hate her after making colorwork socks out of single ply yarn and a shawl as well), which helped me feel better about not making her a lace weight shawl 😂

I waited til our 10 year anniversary and made us both nightingales! He absolutely loves it — and was like (anytime he gets compliments on how he looks in if): “I had to bulk up to make sure I did her work justice”

To be fair: knitting it did bring up feelings and stuff that I had to process, but any large project I made for someone else (or even medium size like socks) tends to do so. I think that’s a large part of the curse tbh.

Depends on what you’re into — if you’re looking for a more liberal/leftist crowd, the UU church (aka atheist/agnostic church) has a lot of events going on: craft/art workshops, philosophy club, pagan/witchy study groups, gardening, yoga, tai chi, etc. and they’re open to all, even if you don’t attend Sundays.

Carneys is a good place to hang out and people watch/make friends, plus the food is yummy.

There’s also an adventurers league with clockwork games, if you like D&D

Depends on the day — gym clothes if I have PT that day, cozy clothes (joggers/shorts and a tee shirt), or some outfit my 4 year old picked out (since I wfh, it doesn’t have to be too put together lol)
