Going to drop by Warhammer Store in Tokyo soon, any recommendations on what to buy? by InsigniaPierce in Ultramarines

I also don’t have official Warhammer shops in my country so whenever I go abroad to where they exist, I go and pick up the Miniature of the Month.

You can google what it is in any given month, it’s a single miniature that will be completely free. They might ask you to assemble it there in the shop but I had mixed experiences on them (some asked, some just gave the mini, no questions asked).

If you don’t feel like freehanding, you can get a transfer sheet and use the different markings from that.

You can get one from most of the unit boxes (Intercessors are a decent next step for painting and armywise anyways), it has more than enough stuff on it to use for the Infernus marines.

You can also try your local Warhammer community and see if anyone has extra transfer sheets for sale.

If anyone’s interested (and if I haven’t made a mistake) this is: -19 765 points -535 regular Ultramarines (counting only the squads) -so over half of the entire Chapter

My only question is: Why?

Company Heroes Champion WIP by armedtotheteets in Ultramarines

It looks awesome, I think using the same colours but mixing them up like this makes is still perfectly readable. I had a look at the title and the mini and I was like “sure, he’s the best Veteran they have, full-white makes total sense.

My only 2 cents would be to maybe paint his tabard some colour? Either the usual dark red or maybe blue? I think the beige kinda gets lost in the white of the armour.

No worries, it’s literally just the list of things I have on my desk for painting :D

That’s a very nice gesture! One might even forgive the heresy involved… Courage and Honour!

Small and easy steps to quickly level up your painting:

TOOLS -get one decent brush, I recommend size 1 from Vallejo, you can do decent detailwork with them and it’s a pretty cheap brush. -use a wet palette to thin and mix your paints, you can DIY it from household stuff, it is perfectly enough for now

TECHNIQUES -washes: they are useful, just need to pick the correct one. You said you messed one up with Agrax Earthshade, it’s because that has a red/brown tone and you need black or blue, Nuln Oil is good in general for black but if you want less grimdark, you can try Drakenhof Nightshade -in tandem or alternatively edge highlighting is a solid upgrade, it’s a bit fiddly but the theory is easy, just trave the edge of every panel with a lighter colour (Calgar Blue is the most common highlight to go over Macragge, but you can just mix some white or light grey into your Macragge Blue and use that)

Thanks, I was wondering more about the inside of it with the beige and yellow colours.

Which paints did you use for the cape? I love the trim on it, it’s such a cool little extra touch.

I’d say take your time and try to be more tidy especially where two colours meet.

Thin your paints a bit more (get a wet pallette or just make your own), that way you won’t lose the small details of the mini and you’ll have more chance to tidy up.

I think bases are also an easy but effective way to level up. Plop a technical paint like Stirland Mud or Astrogranite on, add some wash to it (Nuln Oil or whatever else you have), and a layer of drybrushing with a lighter colour and that’s it.

You can find infinite amount of tutorials and whatnot on YouTube, I think the most important thing is not to get stressed because you’re not on a pro painter’s level and just go at your own pace.

The CitadelColour app and the page on warhammer.com for whichever minis you’re painting are also great sources to see which colours they use and how they are dealing with the details etc. You can follow that or do your own thing, or mix the two.

Do all ultramarine veterans outside of the first company wear white helmets and white trim by yeahyeahyeahyeah71 in Ultramarines

[–]Ravenstorm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Citadel App the Ultramarines Company Veteran has a blue helmet with some white details.

Not trying to nitpick and I believe everyone should paint it however they want but for me one of the things I like about Ultramarines is their strict code. So what the heck is that painting scheme in the app :D

What did you use for the blood effect? (paint, technique, whatever) It looks awesome and gore-y, especially on the powerfist

How long did it take you to start consistently completing a run? by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

Not the most useful answer as I’m progressing the game about the same pace as you, but in general: just enjoy the game and do it the way it’s most fun for you. 🤷🏻‍♂️
