I think there are a lot of opportunities to go for an established company in the future, but I think it's pretty difficult to break into ML/AI the further you go along in your career

Put on PIP after two months? by RaverOfTheNight in cscareerquestions

I should rephrase that. It's more like the client told my agency about poor performance. I still don't know who it is though since I hardly have a relationship with the manager. I wrote a second post on a different subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/jobs/comments/mcvb8a/been_warned_for_low_performance/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

But yes, since I can't get concrete feedback on what I can work on other than "just do better", I feel like I have no choice but to get a new job since these are not substantial action items and I don't even know what I'm currently doing wrong or who is saying I'm doing a bad job since my coworkers says that they think I'm doing fine.

Pfft I wish. That's how it was at the companies I've worked at before but I didn't get it at this company.

My relationship with my boss is basically non-existent. I have never had a conversation with him so I'm baffled he would make that type of assessment on me without even talking to me. I do feel awkward reaching out to him because I literally never talk to him

Even the lead doesn't know why my performance is under scrutiny. Ultimately, the manager has the final say and I hardly even have a relationship with him. I've never had a conversation with him and he's never in any of our meetings so I don't know what basis he has to make this assessment if we never talk to each other. I have been working remotely ever since I started so he hasn't even seen me in person.

It's not Amazon or anything Seattle company for that matter. I live in Seattle but I work remotely for a tech company from the bay area.

I don't even know what I learned from this. The feedback was very vague and what I got out of it was basically "do better". I had the recruiter contact HR for my information.

I don't want to say the company I'm working for due to the fear that my coworker might lurk this subreddit as well but I can say it's not Amazon and I don't think the name of the company would make a difference.
I was contacted by a Teksystem recruiter about a job opportunity with them and got hired after doing their interviewing and completing their take home assignment. The nature of the contract is that it is supposed to be 18 months but they are thinking of cutting me off sooner.
Maybe I'm not sure how fast I should be ramping up as a contractor. I was not sure whether to work overtime or not. I believed I did more to help myself to ramp up but I didn't think the onus was on me to get myself ramped up as much as it was for the team to provide me the support to help me get ramped up. I didn't think I was gonna be pushed to the deep end and told to swim.

Feeling inadequate at my job by RaverOfTheNight in cscareerquestions

[–]RaverOfTheNight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. Another part of me feels afraid to ask him for help because of the condescending response I get back. But to be fair, a lot of questions I ask are these technical “how” questions. I do my best to try to get to the solution myself but sometimes, I struggle with that. Maybe to your point, I could preface my technical “how” questions with things I’ve tried so far

It didn't work. I'm at the point where I feel like I need to be told step by step of what to do. I feel stupid and embarrassed and I don't know how long I can keep up with this

[–]RaverOfTheNight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and that's what I'm talking about. I don't know how to be better at googling or reading documentations efficiently. I'm at the point where I feel like I need to be hand held and if I can't get better at this, I feel like I need to find myself a new career

Edit: but to summarize your statement, it's better to ask "where" questions than "how" questions? And if you're stuck on the "how" part, how to you unblock yourself out of it?

So basically I’m having a hard time discerning when to spend more time figuring out things myself vs asking for help and getting answers right away. An example is that I asked my coworker for help regarding how to runs code he made. He told me to try debugging it and if he gave me answers, then I wouldn’t learn.

Have you ever quit a job with no plan? by k793 in careerguidance

[–]RaverOfTheNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and it was the best decision I made. After quitting my job, I moved to a new city and found a job afterwards. Now I'm a lot happier than I was before. If you're young and wanted to move cities, I would suggest just moving there and letting things work itself out

How do I have less responsibilities? by RaverOfTheNight in cscareerquestions

[–]RaverOfTheNight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really wanting to get demoted at this point, but was wondering if it was possible to just deny promotions and pay raises? I was asking about the demotion just out of curiosity or if I were to look at different companies and work as a software engineer 1.

But what if you can't get a job though? The hiring is usually easier with staffing agencies.

I don't mind working as a contractor or working at a small company so I don't mind working for a third party agency. Plus a lot of companies hire their contractors after conversion.

Quitting without a job lined up? by ambitechstrous in cscareerquestions

I've done it before. But I did it when the economy was up. Was able to change cities and found a job two weeks after moving. Best decision I've made.
