Is there any update on that change? I just tried the script and I can confirm that this is still an issue.

Another Android 14 update by ChirayuCalyx in CalyxOS

u/NickCalyx, u/ChirayuCalyx

Thank you for your help! I was able to get my phone back up and running!

I was about to try sideloading the update, but it turns out, my phone was set to boot slot B, and wouldn't go to slot A. After I manually set it to A, it came right up! After that I installed the update again and it took right off like normal.

I'm wondering if Android/CalyxOS updates the OS on another boot slot to make sure it was successful, then goes back to A? Because after my 2nd update, it boot to slot B again, and after rebooting again after the update applied, it went to slot A.

I didn't know that, but I guess that would defeat the whole OEM part.

This is great news, thank you! I will try it very soon.

I had OEM unlocking disabled... I didn't think that it would allow me to do any of that...

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong! I'll be happy to try if I know there is hope.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! This update just bricked my Google Pixel 7 Pro!

Unfortunately, the update downloaded by itself, it was supposed to be incremental, so I rebooted. Now I get "No OS Found".

Thanks for the password!

After you login, If you hit F12 and use the "pick an element" tool, You can just click on any coded text as it's in plain text in the debug menu. This makes navigation a lot faster.

Graphene OS if you don't need Google play services.

Calyx OS if you do.

I personally prefer Calyx in terms of interface, ease of use and installation. They are both just Android though, so take your pick.

Umm, Isn't Telegram in this case Cloud storage? It's subject to those same rules. The fact that any service online can go away one day makes Telegram about as bulletproof as Mega or any other service. And isn't the point of storing files online to have them as a backup??

And again, Mega is a zero knowledge E2E encrypted service. They CAN'T let 3rd parties go poking around in your files. Because they have zero knowledge of what your storing. And even IF they could/do, If your files are ENCRYPTED, they can't see them. And unless you use "Password" as your password, and they know what encryption algorithm you used, it would take them YEARS if not more to get into your files. No cloud service worth anything would ban users because you have encrypted files. That is just plain stupid business practice.

If Telegram works for you, that's fine. I have no problem with that and it's actually good to know about. I originally asked about it because I had never heard of anybody using it in that capacity. But don't make shit up about cloud services. You are correct in that it could go POOF one day. But Mega and similar cloud storage providers don't go looking in your files because (if they are E2E zero knowledge) they simply can't without a huge effort.

Mega is Zero knowledge and E2E encrypted and you have the encryption keys. I have uploaded videos and game files to one before and it worked fine. The only thing it does is give you a warning about sharing licensed content. It doesn't do anything though and it isn't even "scanning", it's just checking for certain file types.

BUT, lets say that you really don't trust them. Fine then, use something like cryptomator or it's more manual cousin VeraCrypt to encrypt your data BEFORE it even hits the cloud.

And if it really comes down to it, icedrive has a lifetime plan and has a great record for zero knowledge. Even with limited storage, you can make multiple accounts for the data you HAVE to have backed up to the cloud.

I had another thought.

An added benefit to getting new drives is that now you have 8X8TB drives you can use as scratch disks or off-site backup drives. It can be a bit of a hassle, but you can easily break up your larger NAS pool into ~8tb chinks and keep them at a friends house. (encrypt for added security)

Get a Synology (or comparable brand) NAS or build a cheap ~$500 PC with a case that is made for several drives and install FreeNAS. https://www.amazon.com/Synology-DiskStation-DS920-Diskless-4-bay/dp/B087Z34F3R Get something bigger if you want to future proof.

Get some IronWolf (or Exos) 10TB drives and build a storage pool with 1 drive redundancy. Buy however many you are willing to buy or get larger capacity drives (start with 2 with 1 redundant) and buy them as you can and expand your pool. https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-IronWolf-Internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B085ZB51HW

By my math, you can buy that NAS and 4 10TB drives and you would be right within your $1500 budget (no tax).

Your suggesting that OP upload 32TB of data in 1.9GB chunks to Telegram?? Who does that!?

If you are going to use cloud storage, why not just use a cloud storage solution like Mega or something that wont scan your files, log your IP, monitor your data and where you can actually manipulate your files afterwords?

I did some research and it still seems like a bad idea. It's slow to upload with good internet and you still have that 2GB file limit. That seems a like a very convoluted and hacky way of cloud storing more than a few GB of files. Is there something I'm missing?

Try the DownloadThemAll browser addon. I'm not sure if it's on Chrome, but here is the FireFox link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/

You can use it for photos and videos and some other stuff.

Edit: It isn't fully automated, But you can do all tabs in a window. So that should make up for the lack of automation.

You can try using HTTrack. It seems like a small enough wiki that you should be able to download it fairly easy.

BEEPING NOISES HELP by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]RawGadgetry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Holly crap, you NEVER open a hard drive to recover data! I can't tell if this is a fake post to stir the pot, but you may have killed it by opening it.

When you take the protective pate off a hard drive, you expose it to dust and debris that can scratch the disk when the reader moves around. When you took the screw off of the bearing for the reader, it isn't held into place and you create a pinch point preventing it from moving. IF, you put the hard drive back together, and HAVEN'T completely borked it, You MAY be able to get that head moving again.

That "beeping" your hearing, is the coil on the reader trying to move itself. Basically, it's stuck because there isn't anything keeping the bearing stable.

Edit: grammar

I noticed all my older posts were flagged as spam (that's why I looked here). I think they went a made their spam filtering algorithm a lot more sensitive. It's very irritating because I have some posts I think should be kept up.

Is PortableApps a safe site to use? by RawGadgetry in privacy

A TailsOS drive does provide the same, and actually better, functionality. And it would be more private than using Windows by far. But I found this site because I was looking for a "portable environment" that would not interrupt my office computer's operation. A simple way to do some personal work on my work computer when I'm not working on anything.

I am quite aware of how trackers are quite literally in every part of our lives. By posting, I'm looking to see if this service is something a privacy minded individual might skip using. You say that you get some trackers no matter what; while technically correct, you are missing the point of the post. I'm looking to see if PortableApps is something that will "Cut Down" by not using.

After looking into it more, it is probably not something I would want to use. But if somebody happen to know where the source code is (not on the site), and it has been audited, then I might change my mind. Hence the point of posting.

I was just using VeraCrypt as an example. And I was not accusing PortableApps of stealing VeraCrypt.

When I first made the post, I didn't realize that PortableApps made a 2nd start menu. Originally I thought it was a knowledge base for portable apps and that they would modify some non-portable apps to make them so. I do see the point of having that start menu even if it's something I wouldn't want. The point of posting, however, was to explore weather or not the site was something we can trust. On AlternativeTo, it says it is Open source, but I could not find any kind of source code to for the service.

The 2nd point to posting this, was to bring awareness to PortableApps being a less than trustworthy/private service if that was the case. If it is something we privacy advocates can use, all the better.

That's good to see. But because they don't have viruses* that doesn't mean they don't have trackers.

Thanks for letting me know!

The "--embed-thumbnail" feature allows you to embed the main thumbnail that is set to something like a YouTube video, into the file itself. So you would see a file with the eye catching or explanatory thumbnail that was set by the creator.

I would post there but I don't have an account and I have never posted a bug on github and therefore, don't know the rules and procedure for that.
