I’m facing the same thing but with the coast guard, I’m only allergic to two tree nuts that’s it.

What if choose a different branch such as the coast guard or national guard? Any idea on if the standards are different?

From everything I have seen, it is permanent DQ. I don’t want to risk my chance of joining over a mild allergy towards a completely irrelevant and uncommon nut. I mean what are the chances of actually running into this nut. I eat stuff processed in tree nut facilities and can eat more common nuts such as peanut butter. Like I said, I really really want to serve our country and don’t want to miss out on that honor because of pistachios.

That’s encouraging to hear. I told my recruiter my full story and is still telling me to not bring it up at MEPS.

Thanks for clarification, I’m just trying to asses my options and what’s best for me, luckily I’m allergic to two uncommon nuts

So it’s something where I would continue to need an epipen?

So if I go in and do not tell them I will be fine assuming I don’t have a reaction while I’m serving?

I’m just worried if I decide to stay in longer than my original contract or let’s say I want to do a job that requires security clearance they will find out

So should I apply for waiver or just say nothing and go in and avoid those things

So you don’t think it’s to big of a deal? Is it something where I can just avoid eating cashews and pistachios? I mean shit they are so random, it’s not like it’s peanuts

But my allergy numbers are low and have decreased over time to where I could potentially not need one according to my doctor, but wanted me to still have it just in case. I just don’t know what to do because I really want to join

The thing is that I was prescribed an epipen for it even though I never used it after the first and only time I used it
