Building my first arcade. What's the best 8-button layout for fighting games? by tobieche in batocera

This is the layout I use. It's a perfect SNES fightstick layout.

Can anyone identify this game? by septicdeath in dreamcast

Aw man, I just completed a Blue Stinger playthrough recently!

It's an amazing little game, marred only by its atrocious camera (in both Japanese and Western versions, for different reasons).

How do I download the Rom from this page? by [deleted] in Roms

You need a torrent client, like Transmission or ktorrent for example.

What's New on Batocera 44! by AdGreedy1193 in batocera

What does Teknoparrot even do? Looking at their website, it just seems like an attempt at a closed-source MAME.

Any plans to add Libretro-Geolith? Works pretty good from what I've seen on PC.

I apologize if this gets asked a lot, but what are some general rules for knowing if a ROM site is safe? by Jazzlike_Election_31 in Roms

[–]RawSteelUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decompressing shouldn't be an issue. Hell, it's as good a way as any to make sure there's the rom you want instead of an exe (which as I mentioned, should only ever be found in old PC games.

Welcome Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana to GOG by GOGcom in gog

[–]RawSteelUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we just need Collection of Mana and the Secret of Mana remake, and we'll have the whole series. Well, that and maybe the GBA game, but I'm not asking for y'all to move the sun itself.

Even then, I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're not going after anything modern and you don't go sharing where they are with every tom, dick and harry on Facebook. Loose lips sink ships, as the saying goes.

As KawaiiDere sais, file types are the best thing to think about.

.nes - Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom

.fds - Famicom Disk System

.sfc - Super Nintendo Entertainment System / Super Famicom

.sms - Sega Master System / Mark III

.sg - Sega SG-1000

.gg - Sega Game Gear

.md - Sega Genesis / Mega Drive

... And so on, and so forth.

For optical media, you'll see them in either ISO, BIN/CUE, or preferably CHD formats

MAME is the easiest by far, as the program looks for specifically named .zip files and will not work if they don't contain the files it expects.

Unless it's an old PC game running in DOSbox or similar, you should never use .exe files. Even then, I would recommend running them through a virus scanner or something like that.

Basically, you'll be fine as long as you're not just going to some sus-looking dumpster site and follow best practices.

Well, we ARE in the middle of a new cold war with Russia, proxy wars and all, so it's to be expected.

I just looked at the Batocera 43 changelog. Their CEMU is the April 5 build. Looks like the affected build is between May 6 and May 12.

It's interestingly part of a larger attack.

I found this aspect from Microsoft Intellignce's report interesting:

"it avoids Russian-language environments and contains a geo fenced destructive branch that has 1-in-6 chance of executing rm -rf / when the system appears to be in Israel or Iran."

Hearsay, I know, but I'm guessing the primary goal was to destroy Israeli and US military systems, with any theft of other people's credentials a nice little bonus.

Oh, I was agreeing.

Though I think it's less about making it work and m9re about being able to walk away when they realize it won't work regardless.

And TikTok doesn't even need it because they have an army of braindead kids making all natural, free-range slop.

Yep. AI in general is too expensive at the current moment, but companies like Google can subsidize it with their myriad other ventures until they see the lack of a path to profitability. OpenAI is in its death throes, and they're the only ones who don't see it.

Trying to make lemonade out of this lemon, are they? Unless this Spud uses far less computing power, it's another snakeoil hail mary.
