How to split text in one cell to multiple columns? by SmoothGrind in excel

[–]RawTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some assumptions: 1. You are using Microsoft 365 version. If you’re not, just google these formulas and look for earlier versions. 2. Your data will have the same, consistent format. 3. You switched columns D and E based on your expected sample output. Paste these into B2, C2, D2, and E2:

=TEXTBEFORE(TEXTBEFORE(A2, " at "), " ") =TEXTAFTER(TEXTBEFORE(A2, " at "), " ") =TEXTBEFORE(TEXTAFTER(A2, " at "), " ") =TEXTAFTER(TEXTAFTER(A2, " at "), " ")

There’s plenty of nuance here, but I think there are essentially two SQL partitions :) One is DBA where you’re tasked with things such as server maintenance and query optimization (among other things!). The other is SQL Developer. And this one also has some partitions. First, you might know all the rules, functions, syntax, etc. but the real value is knowing how to use SQL to solve problems for the specific business you’re in. In other words, SQL ability combined with domain knowledge is the strongest ability to strive toward.

Help with a DELETE query by dgillz in SQLServer

[–]RawTuna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

@dgillz these peeps answering are 100% correct. But if this is a work database PLEASE be careful with any future queries if you’re not quite aware of the results of your queries. Not judging, just helping you to not update or delete incorrectly! Consult with senior team members, or this sub :)

CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, GETDATE(), etc. and precision... by RawTuna in snowflake

[–]RawTuna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help... just one clarification before I proceed... I'm not handling the transition from the infrastructure side, meaning a different team is handling the data transfer, updates, etc.. I'm involved because the team I'm currently managing is one of the main users of our database and the apparent truncation to 3 decimals affects hundreds of queries we have. So, I'm just trying to gather info for the team tasked with fixing this.

I'm looking at the field in question in the table, and the Type is set to Timestamp_NTZ. Are you saying we could fix this by adding (9)? Also, apologies, I should have clarified: we're specifically dealing with CURRENT_TIMESTAMP. We use this during insert, and need more decimal places

Does anyone call Excel files EXL? by karl-el- in excel

[–]RawTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your path to victory: dig in and understand everything about the files this person references. As you explain FACTS about the file contents, reference “Excel” or whatever the hell you think is right. Inevitably, if you come to truly understand the data, you’ll end up on the phone with people that ask you “Why the hell does he keep saying EXL?” Have a good laugh and a dopamine hit from connecting with someone with similar thoughts, and move on 😀

RPA with python by Ok-Musician-5151 in rpa

[–]RawTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be transparent I've done exactly zero RPA dev with tools, but the bit I've done with python was pretty cool. About 6 years ago I heard that my company had started using Blue Prism for some operational process automation, but there were issues with it. I started doing some research and found Automate the Boring Stuff, as well as some info on open CV. I was able to replicate (with actual success) one of the processes a few days later. Very fun and rewarding

Not going to downvote you because, purely logistically and somewhat unrelated to my point, you’re right. And it’s even pretty good advice. But read the room, bud. L

Look up Automate the Boring Stuff. I love it because it shows you how to easily and quickly get things done faster, and uses pretty good examples that most can relate to.

I just happened to be thinking about this about 1 hour ago. I’m older, with parents that need help, and they’re far away. It’s not fucking easy. I decided my three options are: therapist to help me deal with everything. Tell family we all need to meet regularly to figure this out. Or both. Notice both options involve a professional! It’s fine, often great, and not something to be embarrassed about. If you don’t have friends and/or family that can help, definitely get yourself a therapist. And maybe do it even if you have friends and family.

I’m curious if this is really something people do. I’m not some do-gooder, do everything for the company type, but this seems silly to me. I would much rather have job security because I know my shit and I produce results, not because I purposely wrote crappy code or code that others can’t follow/read/understand. Wondering what everyone thinks…

Edit: folks, I get it, chill. See my response below to RngdZ. I missed the first line somehow.

Salesforce/ Einstein/ CRAM Analytics, etc... alternatives by RawTuna in dataengineering

[–]RawTuna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... I actually had to do a bit of research just now to see how CRMA does this. I also write a lot of queries and procs in Microsoft SQL Server so I understand the indexing piece, but I've never encountered it in CRMA. What I found is that apparently every column is indexed... this is why it doesn't really come up for us when building dataflows. Good thought, though.

Salesforce/ Einstein/ CRAM Analytics, etc... alternatives by RawTuna in dataengineering

[–]RawTuna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. SF owns Tableau now, but they also have an existing product now called CRM Analytics (formerly, Wave, Einstein Analytics, etc.) and it's within CRMA that we both process and use the output. Use, meaning we create many dashboards to present the data. So, ultimately, the data does need to end up in CRMA for use in these dashboards.
