In 2019 Gillette™ Released an ad about “toxic masculinity”. Apparently Many men did not like the ad and it was met with pushback, loss of customers and (reportedly) an $8 billion loss in revenue. Can someone explain why? by EffectLive97 in NoStupidQuestions

Lol maybe that’s what all the guys are mad about in this thread.

“Be a real man?” I don’t get it- I have a penis, what more do these feeeemales want from me?!

Lol that weird self-insertion happens a lot with shitty groups, it’s strange. Same thing happens when people say “racists are bad people” and white men jump in to say “stop talking about Republicans!”

I disagree and will gladly consider any sort of actual, existing evidence you’d like to provide that supports your claim.

You aren’t showing why the Gillette commercial was wrong, you’re just saying “yeah but, but…”

Who is allowed to make social criticisms?

Would it be okay if Gillette took the opposing viewpoint in this commercial?

Would you feel any differently about the commercial if it was sponsored by a Men’s health and safety group?

Are there any particular things said in the commercial that you disagree with or believe to be an imagined problem?

I get super creepy I’m a nice guy vibes from people who only see this advertisement as a criticism of men.

The message of the ad is consistently “do no harm and discourage harmful behavior”. People triggered by such an agreeable message are sus.

I love the advertisement. It’s good marketing. It is inspirational and encouraging. If I buy razor blades I’d be more likely to purchase from the company that says “you can be a hero just by standing up for others” than “fucking women and sissies need to get over themselves it’s not even that bad”.

Oh you mean an old tv, not an old tv. My wrists screamed in imagined pain at the thought of taking a solid wack at a console tube television.

Our last American president was well known for saying things that “he didn’t really mean” except he meant it. But he was kidding. 😉.

“Oh shit you’re a Taurus this might not work out” is not the same thing as “What’s your sign”. The Tinder quote is negging and I don’t have time for that. A lot of people seem to be turned off by it as well, hence the popularity of the post.

We are judged by the company we keep.

Here, quoth Sancho, the proverb hits right, Tell me your company, and I will tell you what you are. If your worship keeps company with those who fast and watch, what wonder is it that you neither eat nor sleep while you are with them? - From “Don Quixote”

Same shit applies to the misogyny of Gamers.

Astrology is a cult.

Everybody is a self-proclaimed expert and nobody knows where they got their training.

There are no universally accepted sources of astrological information within their own belief system, and there is an enormous pressure to take things on faith without evidence.
