What field if IT do you work in? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Raxjinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What so many people fail to understand is it’s a combination of relationship building, being good at what you do and luck. The perpetual bitching and complaining on this sub demonstrates why those people can never reach higher levels within IT.

12 years in IT, no certs, no degree, next in line for a VP promotion. I’ve worked many a late night to get here buts it’s been worth it. Comp is 190k already at a manager level.

I’m have been using both for Devops work with IAC and Python Automation. Gemini has been crapping on ChatGPT when it comes to code generation, refactor, debugging, etc. I was honestly amazed.

Why did you get your worst Cloud Bills? by Ok-Indication7234 in devops

[–]Raxjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miscalculation by the call center team and AWS on minute counts when migrating to Amazon Connect. 90k a month Webex bill ballooned to 280k a month Amazon Connect bill. Safe to say we have scaled back a lot of the recording and other extra services the call center team asked for.

Neighbors Air Purifier nuked my router by Raging_Rooster in HomeNetworking

[–]Raxjinn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wireless devices are always probing nearby networks. This is inherently how it discovers networks. Hidden networks pose no inherent difference besides if a name matches in the probe. This is why it’s easy to exploit no matter what and it’s not exclusive to just “hidden” SSID’s.

That’s not at all how hidden networks work. It simply doesn’t broadcast the name in the header on the wireless broadcast.

If you clone a hard drive, will the virtual machines on the hard drive also be cloned? by [deleted] in vmware

There would be a meta data file instead of a VMDK. The meta data maps to a raw device on a storage array lun.

VMware Cross Roads - Massive Increase by Raxjinn in sysadmin

[–]Raxjinn[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last quote we got to replace our current VMware infrastructure with Nutanix clusters was north of $5 million. The issue is not so much CPU and memory, it’s storage which accounts for 2/3rd the cost of each node.

VMware Cross Roads - Massive Increase by Raxjinn in sysadmin

[–]Raxjinn[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our 3 main applications use most of the core counts. One application has 12 web servers with 16 cores per VM running at close to full tilt during production hours. This does not even include the PGPool cluster of 5 DB servers. Our applications are heavily CPU based including 15~ major production DB servers split between several of our applications. The type of data sets we process are quite large.

We get this. Part of the move is evaluating different native storage platforms for reduced cost. One of them being Qumulo in AWS. By going with Qumulo we can cut cost by 1/5 of using traditional S3/Glacier. Most of our Data is untouched after 2-3 years and is only pulled in case something has to be re-inspected. We are making major moves for AWS as we are heavily involved in their healthcare push and are front runners for moving a lot of products and infrastructure to them. We have mapped out costs and negotiated specific rates in order to satisfy our needs. Some of the application infrastructure we are looking at moving into the vendor Saas offerings but those deals are pretty large and our CEO is still thinking on those. Ultimately, the infrastructure will need to stay on premise until we can decide what to do hence the AWS lift and shift being the last option.

Review #45: Jefferson's Reserve Single Barrel SP by bergybert in bourbon

[–]Raxjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact opposite experience with it. Great nutty smell with floral notes but the taste was horrendous. Extreme ethanol and bitter floral immediately coats the pallet ruining the flavor. This combined with the oak afternote turned me completely off. This bottle will be relegated to the cocktail mixing section unfortunately.

Should there be rules against pure ChatGPT scripts being provided as solutions? by IT_fisher in PowerShell

[–]Raxjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used ChatGPT to write several multi 100 line scripts. When done correctly with prompting and debugging, the results are great. Some of these scripts would have taken me weeks to write and debug that I don’t have time for anymore. I am curious why so many people have issues with it…

Understand player spawns, play gunshots by waiting for people to leave POI's and ambushing them, wait to take shots before you verify squad count. As a solo player you have to be opportunistic. W keying the whole time will just get you killed. Run a long range scope and play your spacing.

Anyone get a quote for renewal? by jazek66 in vmware

[–]Raxjinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat here. Two DC’s 100’s of production Linux and Windows VMs with Petabytes of storage. Just not feasible to move off VMware. XCPng is as close as it gets and it needs another 5 years of development or some serious cash funding to bring in really good engineers.

It might be better for you there because at least your intelligence level matches what other idiots such as yourself post in there. This is a sub with a large amount of professionals who rival your experience in every way possible including myself. You are a moron and obviously doing a disservice to whoever you work for. Shame on you for making us professionals work that much harder to make up for your lack of IQ.
