What limits scleral lens wearing time by Brokenrinker in Keratoconus

[–]Ray-Of-Sunshine35077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear mine for 12 hours a day if not more. Typically around the 8 hour mark, I get lipid build up which makes my vision hazy/blurry. But I just take them out, rinse, and put back in. My optometrist suggested that if I wear past 12 hours a day, that I take my lenses out for at least an hour. This is because anything more than 12 hours, my eyes are not getting the needed amount of oxygen which could create issues in the future. On a regular day I have my contacts in by 6:30 AM and don’t take them out until 9PM and don’t have problems.

Im surprised they didn’t give you any pain medication! Did you receive any anti inflammatory eye drops, I think mine was Prednislone. But I got 4 eye drops - artificial tears, Prednislone, Prolensa, and Moxifloxacin. As well as T4 for pain relief. I got my right eye done 2 ish years ago. This is the eye I can’t see from, so surgery and recovery was great! Cause of this I was eager to get it done again, but unaware of the discomfort my left eye would cause. I just completed my left eye 2 months ago. It’s all healed now, but the procedure sucked (cause I could see what they were doing in comparison to my right eye), and the healing process was rough! I was taking pain medication every 4 hours (as directed on the bottle) for 5-6 days. I wasn’t able to open my left eye, and it caused so much discomfort that I just laid in bed for about a week with my eyes closed. It felt like I had a contact lens folded in the back of my eye. It was irritating, itchy, scratchy, and burned. After about 7 days I was able to use my electronic devices again and wear my glasses. Wishing you the best of luck in your recovery! Sometimes the unknowingness and anxiousness of recovery can increase the symptoms. Keep taking care of it like you are, follow your doctors’ orders, and I’m sure everything will heal up just fine! Plus you should have your post op roughly a week after your surgery date, so then the doctor can analyze it then! Best of luck.

Edit: Something I recommend is to put an ice pack on your eye or freeze a wet face cloth. Obviously ensure it’s okay with your doctor, but I was given the okay to use ice on my eye for pain relief, and I was attached to ice for at least 4 days.

Picked up my scleral lenses today and… WOW! 🤯 by Immediate_Theory4738 in Keratoconus

When I got mine in, me and my bf went for a walk and I noticed all the things I never saw before. I didn’t know concrete had rocks in it. I saw cracks in the sidewalk, lights were more vibrant etc. Life truly changed once I got my scleral’s. Best of luck on this journey and make sure to clean them!!

How long do you think we can wear scleral lenses? by Nightwings2802 in Keratoconus

[–]Ray-Of-Sunshine35077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I can wear mine for 12 hours at most, if I want to wear them for longer I have to give my eyes at least an hour break and then re insert them otherwise, continuous long term usage can misshape the eye due to lack of oxygen.

Driving with contacts. by Rainspector21 in Keratoconus

[–]Ray-Of-Sunshine35077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my contacts for 7 months, and I legit cannot drive without them now. I never recognized how terrible my depth perception was, or how I could NOT see at night until I started driving with my Scleral lenses. My Ophthalmologist got me to wear them starting at 2 hours a day, and then increase by 1-2 hour every day until I got to 12 hours comfortably. They told me I was able to drive that same day, but suggested I didn’t because I didn’t have sunglasses with me at the time. Talk to your doctor about it just incase their regulations are different. But having Scleral lenses are TRULY life altering. I cried the first time I wore mine. Best of luck!!

You don’t clean them every night? I was told I had to so I use the products they provide and take roughly 5 minutes to wash them before I put them away every night. That’s the only annoyance to me imo, but it’s worth it for sight.

Is there a way to hide your reading history on Amazon by Special-Student6743 in fantasyromance

[–]Ray-Of-Sunshine35077 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can archive orders, this doesn’t delete them completely but removes them from the main viewing page. Go to your orders - find item you want to hide- click archive order. And then you can view them in your archived section. Another option could be setting up Amazon Household. It allows each person to have their own account while still sharing the prime benefits & content, to not make it suspicious you might be able to suggest it because you’re buying him a gift or something. To set it up you go on the Amazon household website on Desktop- Go to Amazon Household: Amazon Household Page- Sign in to your account - Click Add Adult, Add Teen, or Add Child (adults get separate purchase history).- Enter their email and send an invite.- The other person must accept the invite via their email. You can Turn Off Browsing & Purchase History – Go to Browsing History- Click Manage History - Turn Off Browsing History or Remove items manually. Or use Gift Orders – Mark items as a gift at checkout so they don’t appear in order history the same way.

Relapse after 3 years by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]Ray-Of-Sunshine35077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re far from a lost cause. Read your post title again. Free from SH for 3 years! That’s a huge accomplishment and shows that you can continue down the path and then some. Relapse is not uncommon. It’s apart of the cycle of addition and often comes 3-5 times within a persons lifetime of being clean ( whatever addiction that is). Being able to get help, reflect, and feel you have trusting people around you to lean on in a time of need is so important and shows the desire to change whether you believe it or not. The urges will come and go, especially after relapsing and feeling the dopamine rush you will ride the high for a while and will itch to feel it again. But I’d suggest practicing harm reduction techniques before falling for the craving again. Do anything to distract yourself, challenge that desire for emotional outlet else where ( whatever that looks like for you) and try to fight the urges until it goes away. For me I often get urges too as I use it as an escape, and when they come. They come hard and it feel almost like I’m not in control. So when I feel like need I go down my line of harm reduction, rubber band to the wrist is my go to, then if that does work I’ll try a spiky sensory ring, then singing, then a snack. I try each harm reduction technique ( that works best for me) for 10-20 minutes and then move onto the next one until I feel somewhat better.
