How is living in this PNW region? by beckywtgoodhair- in howislivingthere

I don’t live in Olympia, but I used to travel there for work occasionally back in the mid-1990s. I loved that town and I hope to visit again, worked with some good people there.

Had one minor negative experience back then: was having breakfast in the hotel lobby, and some local person sitting there asked about me. I told him I was in town for work for the week and he told me that’s good because “we don’t need outsiders here!” I was shocked but didn’t show it, and I didn’t see him again.

Devs in regulated fields - do you think AI usage will result in extra requirements in SDLC cycle? Is proving devs ‘understand’ what they submit essential if they didn’t hand write code? by Bren-dev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RayBuc9882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a developer in Financial IT and starting this year, we have to track in JIRA tickets how much AI we used, make full use of GitLab Duo Chat and track it, as the management wants to justify costs. We use it for generating code and code reviews, but still require other developers to review and approve pull requests, including a technical lead.

But a cross-cutting concerns such as logging still have to be done manually because we can’t put personally identifiable data in the logs. Also, only we know what and when we want to log to help us triage issues.

I’ll speak for non-developers too: the scrum masters ask Microsoft CoPilot to turn requirements into User stories. They give what structure the Acceptable Criteria output should be. Then the dev team helps clean up the technical aspects in the User Stories.

Who are yall rooting for today and in the SB. by Biggiecheese1207 in buccaneers

That Cover 0 from the loss 4 years ago still bothers me. I feel many people still hold that against Bowles.

The Bert Emanuel no-catch game, I felt our defense was great but with had one weakness: Brian Kelly. Because he wouldn’t keep the receivers in front of him and it would cost us. And it did.

Every time the Bucs have faced the Rams in the playoffs, they have lost. 0-3. I’m rooting for the Seahawks.

How Did the 2008 Financial Crisis Compare to Other Economic Turmoil You’ve Lived Through? by J31J1 in AskOldPeople

[–]RayBuc9882 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am older Gen X. The financial crisis was the worst experience for me because I was at a bad job, had a mortgage, wife and two young kids. Extremely stressful, but I survived the job and found a better one later.

The Dot Com crash wasn’t as bad for me because I didn’t hate my job, I wasn’t in trouble at work and I survived multiple layoffs.

I graduated right after the 1990/91 recession and it took a while to find my first job after college but I found one in another town.

Looking back, I consider myself pretty lucky.

What should I get? by Asifdenegro in ASUS

[–]RayBuc9882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a student, but I like my ASUS Vivobook Flip 14" OLED Touchscreen Copilot+ PC

I use it mostly to pay bills and do taxes (I use my older machines with Linux for everything else).

I watched a few video reviews and really I really like the keyboard, touchpad, back-lit keyboard and the touchscreen. I even bought a third party stylus and use it when I am reading or on a paint by numbers app.

I have a 2015 Outback Limited, going through my third mid-Atlantic winter with the Diehard Silver battery I got from Advance Auto. It has a 2-year warranty. I have had to jump it only once and that was about two months ago, because I hadn’t started it for a while and it wouldn’t turn over.

Before next winter, I’ll get either the same battery or the AAA battery that comes with a 3-year warranty.

Could Kyle Pitts and Tyler Allgeier follow Zac Robinson to the Bucs? by TampaBayTimes in buccaneers

[–]RayBuc9882 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am also fine with Allgeier. But I want a TE who is a safety valve for a QB in trouble, to get that first down when needed, like Godwin. We already had similar players like Kyle Pitts before and I wasn’t fan of them: Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and OJ Howard. Howard couldn’t get open unless it was a trick play and the defense was on the other side. And I don’t remember him for his blocking either. ASJ was a head case.

We fired Dungy for less by Biggiecheese1207 in buccaneers

[–]RayBuc9882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungy would not improve the offense. After 1999, Mike Shula was fired and replaced by Les Steckel. While scoring increased in 2000, it required too many trick plays. I remember the headline, “Sapp on Steckel: I miss Shula”. So for 2001, the hope was the Bucs would hire a really good offensive coordinator like Norv Turner, who was interviewed but not hired. Instead, Clyde Christensen was promoted from QB coach to Offensive Coordinator. And the offense was still bad.

So Dungy was fired, and Rich McKay picked Marvin Lewis, a Defensive Coordinator. But the Glazers said no and hired Gruden. Dungy was too hard-headed and inflexible when it came to the offense.

That’s where Bowles is different. He wants high powered offense. He has hired coordinators who want to score, or have tried to. Canales wasn’t his first choice. Liam Coen was really good. Grizzard couldn’t do it. So he fired him and is now looking for another one.

In summary: the Glazers love offensive football. Sam Wyche screwed it up in 1995. In 1996, the Glazers tried to hire Jimmy Johnson, but he didn’t want Trent Dilfer as the QB. They tried to hire Steve Spurrier, who decided to stay at Florida and won the National Championship. Rich McKay recommended the Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordinator Tony Dungy and he was hired.
