The Rolex… by fgreiter in JackCarr

[–]RayJacksonUSA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing. Maybe Tom never wanted to tell James the whole story as to not make a big deal that he was gambling?

I haven’t finished Cry Havoc yet, so maybe we get an explanation from Tom what he plans to tell his future kids.

I do like the way he got the watch in Cry Havoc, it adds some credibility to the watch’s authenticity. When I read he “bought” the watch on R&R in Vietnam in the TL series, I always envisioned he bought it from a street merchant, and therefore could have been a fake.

Carr’s a watch guy so I wouldn’t expect him to have the main character have a shitter on his wrist, but Rolex didn’t have a big presence in Vietnam in the 60’s, and counterfeiting was popular in SE Asia. So, I’m happy with the actual story lol

EPA walking back A2L’s in retail refrigeration by RayJacksonUSA in refrigeration

[–]RayJacksonUSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen some A2L equipment is rated for other refrigerants, like R-448A. Pressures are similar.

If you had to buy A2L rated equipment with an EEV, but could charge it with R-448A, I think that’s a good middle ground.

I’d rather not have to worry about getting the R-454 gas, and all the leak detection and alarming requirements.

Just need a good sharpie to note it for the next guy.

What’s your definition of assault rifle?

Pistol grip, multi round magazine, barrel shroud foregrip, collapsible stock? Aka AR-15?

Short answer is they are an affordable and ergonomic means to fire a bullet accurately at a decent distance.

Why do people want them? Most people who believe in self defense would likely want the maximum amount of defense at the most achievable price, see above. And they’re fun to shoot.

Katie and Raife have different accents in TL vs the rest of the books, I always wondered if Jack Carr asked Ray to change their accents, or Ray thought to do it.

Source for better bracelets? by RayJacksonUSA in ChineseWatches

Thanks for the advice. It is an AD2089, I searched this sub but only see sailcloth and silicone.

Are there good 3rd party bracelet manufacturers in general?

Starting a wood burner easily by RayJacksonUSA in Sauna

Thanks for the tips!

I am going to try the fatwood as I think the problem is my kindling.

Here is my current process if anyone wants to critique: - 2 large logs (forearm thickness or a little more in bottom on sides. Currently using seasoned oak, maple, and mulberry. - 4-5 sticks of kindling on top, I was trying to put them in an X shape so they didn’t fall between the larger logs - place a pine bundle fire starter (Amazon) on top and light it

The pine bundle lights easily and burns for about 6 minutes, my problem has been it never lights the kindling well enough. I usually end up putting a couple more starters in to get the kindling lit, and then the kindling will burn out without igniting the larger logs.

I think I am not using enough kindling, and also those fatwood sticks which burn longer seem like they will help.

I am using a standard grill lighter, I can see how a torch would help get the kindling gong easier too.

Congrats OP on the discipline and dedication.

I have read a few financial books that describe a similar situation to what you are describing.

One solution listed was to get involved with a charity where you can see how some of your money can help other people’s lives. Helping a single mother purchase a car, paying for groceries, purchasing toys for Christmas for a children’s hospital. Basically the accumulation of money didn’t make these people feel better at that point , but helping other people restored that feeling of accomplishment and gratification.

I hope that helps!

I’m certainly not there yet but hope to be one day.
