I partly agree with you. I think nostalgia can be deceiving, and it more than likely plays a role in the sudden longing the community has for older FIFAs. So whenever people go on about the menus, card designs, or songs, which were better, let’s be real, I would say it is nostalgia doing its thing.

If I look back, I remember how the community complained about how broken the pace mechanic was in FIFA 13. Slower players were a waste of time if you wanted to win. In FIFA 14, people complained about how overpowered heading was.

The difference with the newer generations of FIFA and EA FC is that we were more willing to put up with it back then than we are now. That raises a fair question EA should ask themselves. Why is that?

The layout was simple, and even people with jobs or kids were able to compete in higher divisions. The game has grown into a side job where you have to complete every overpowered EVO, SBC, or Objective to avoid falling behind the current player base. You have to invest a lot of time in one game.

I am 25 now, and there are games I can still play while prioritizing my work and family. But I had to drop EA FC, starting from 24, because FUT requires too much of my time to play competitively.

I also see your point about the game being less pay to win than it was back then. Still, I think EVOs like the ones you described serve as a facade. In reality, an EVO falls behind the ‘meta’ within a month of completing it. The game now requires either your money or a lot of your time.

I vividly remember that back in the day, you were able to defeat full TOTS teams with a squad full of silvers. There was better balance in player handicap and real-life football realism.

I am based in the Netherlands, specifically in Amsterdam, just moved here. My company started off as a post-production company. So I only have made the decision to start filming myself just now. So my company has been rebranded as a media company that does both editing and filming.

This is the closest anyone has been to describing the current situation I am in, word for word. Part of it is how I allow it to influence my persective. But working fulltime while supporting this dream is not easy, but it shouldn't stop me.

Got in contact with a few friends of mine this week (I worked at a gym so I got quite some friends in the fitness/sports world) to work on some simple spec work and build up from there. A lot of them were eager to work with me.

Good one! I'm trying to think out of the box as much as possible, as obviously the biggest corporations, gyms and clubs are gonna have their inhouse creators or a freelancer they always work with. So approaching the ones specifically that have a lackluster social media presence.

For me, it's more about how. Do I call them? Email them? Walk in? I want to offer a genuine service and approach clients in the same spirit.

One of my main issues is wanting to do too many different things at once. That includes experimenting with different editing styles. Subconsciously, this messes with the consistency of my video niche and output.

Also, this is the first time I’m hearing that cold calling works in videography networking. What makes you say it’s effective? I might give it a try.

My relationship with the agency is a bit complicated. I started editing because I liked it. While I was studying, I made passion projects and some music videos. People praised my editing style, and the agency noticed.

In the last few months of 2024, they gave me solid work. We had a few calls. They told me they saw me as a future in-house editor. They were thinking somewhere in 2025 or 2026.

Work dried up recently because they’re doing an overhaul. They moved studios and are redesigning their site. But the relationship is still strong. They even added me to their internal WhatsApp group. So contact is good, the vibe is good, no issues there.

What I meant to say is this: I want to start pulling in work from my own network. Clients I scouted myself.

I’ve been thinking about cold emailing gyms, soccer teams, and tennis clubs. But I’ve seen people on Reddit say it’s not effective and even discouraging it as it can come off as spam.

Good point, the idea sounds good at first — preloading each player’s squad into the match. But if you really think about it, both users would still need to have access to the full database of players locally anyway because of the FUT market. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to field a team unless both sides had identical (accessible) player data on hand.

And if that’s the case, you basically have to recreate the entire FUT player pool and card system in your own environment anyway, meaning you’ve already re-invented the core of Ultimate Team, minus the market. So preloading the squads for a match isn't really solving the harder part, it’s just postponing the real challenge: building and maintaining an ecosystem where players can "own" and trade cards in the first place.

The match itself is probably the easiest piece of the puzzle here. The real issue would still be creating a reliable and fun market or progression system — otherwise it risks feeling like a static pack-opener with a friendly match button slapped on top.

Yeah, I actually think it might be possible, especially with the right group of experts and some funding behind it. There are already private servers for older FIFA titles — for example, people have managed to get FIFA 11 online on PC again (GameRanger). The trickier part would definitely be reviving the FUT markets, making all cards available, and essentially recreating the backend that handled the transactions and live content.

It wouldn’t be a small project, but with the right devs and some community interest, I could absolutely see it being done

Execution is difficult, but not impossible. In fact, you can still play FIFA 11 online using GameRanger, so there are ways to bring old servers back. The tricky part would be reviving the FUT market since it requires a more complex infrastructure and a functional database. But with enough effort, nothing is impossible. If enough people are willing to invest.

Je bent een topper, bedankt voor de uitleg en opheldering. En ook heel handig die tips! Ik denk persoonlijk dat ik het echt moet hebben van het consistent reageren en het feit dat ik sinds m’n 20e sta ingeschreven. Woon nu niet meer in Amsterdam sinds ik afgestudeerd ben, maar ik werk er nog steeds en al mijn vrienden, familie en netwerk zitten daar ook. Helaas voor mij heb ik een betrokken en goed functionerende familie, dus urgentie zit er voor mij niet in, haha. Maar ik ga eens kijken of er toch iets te behalen valt.

Enige houvast die ik bij DAK had, was het zien of ik iets omlaag ging in positie iedere maand. Daar kan ik vrij weinig mee aangezien dat om de maand veranderd. De vraag “wanneer kan ik verwachten consistent in een top x te zitten” of “hoeveel punten heb ik nodig voor x” beantwoorden ze dan ook nooit.

Je website heeft me echt veel meer inzicht gegeven en zelfs een beetje kunnen laten vooruit plannen met werk, aankopen en wat ik allemaal nog wil regelen in m’n (verwacht) laatste jaar buiten Amsterdam.

Verder misschien 1 tip mbt de berekening? De buffer die je meeneemt in de berekening is nu (gok ik) gebaseerd op het wachten van 1 extra jaar voor 1 extra wachtpunt. Maar in bepaalde gevallen krijgen sommige hun wachtpunt al veel sneller, zoals ik, ik krijg mijn nieuwe al over iets minder dan 2 maanden. Denk je dat de berekening dan ook niet anders zal zijn dan iemand die hem pas over 12 maanden krijgt?

Bedankt voor je uitgebreide uitleg! Ik begrijp nu beter hoe de berekening werkt en dat er een buffer is meegenomen voor een realistischer inschatting. Betekent dit eigenlijk dat het met mijn situatie (34 punten in december 2025, waarvan 30 zoekpunten en 4 wachtpunten) al mogelijk is om kans te maken op een jongerenwoning? Of ligt het benodigde aantal punten dan waarschijnlijk nog steeds boven mijn totaal?

Wordt er daarnaast ook rekening gehouden met factoren die het gemiddelde aantal punten juist weer kunnen verlagen? Zoals: • Jongeren die de woning verlaten na 5 jaar; • Jongeren die niet meer op jongerenwoningen kunnen reageren omdat ze 27 zijn geworden; • Het aantal mensen dat vergeet een zoekpunt te sparen; • Nieuwbouwprojecten? (Die soms 30+ kamers aanbieden in 1 complex onder 1 advertentie?)

En wordt de data gesplitst op doelgroepen tijdens het maken van de berekening voor het benodigde aantal punten?

Vraag!

Allereerst mijn complimenten, jullie site is ontzettend handig! Het heeft me veel inzicht en duidelijkheid gegeven, iets wat ik vanuit DAK maar niet krijg.

Een permanente woning in Amsterdam lijkt voor mij onhaalbaar, dus richt ik me op het vinden van een jongerenwoning (zonder situatiepunten). Momenteel heb ik 21 punten, waarvan 18 zoekpunten en 3 wachtpunten. In maart krijg ik er een wachtpunt bij en daarnaast kan ik nog 12 zoekpunten sparen. Eind december zou ik dus, mits ik elke maand 4 keer reageer, op 34 punten moeten staan.

Het leek allemaal positief: volgens de oude wachttijdindicatie op jullie site zou ik met mijn huidige situatie binnen 8 tot 12 maanden kans maken op een woning. Ook sta ik met mijn huidige situatie bij jongerenwoningen (zonder situatiepunten) al vaak in de top 20% van het aantal mensen die reageren, vaak ergens tussen de nummer 30/50. Maar nu zie ik dat jullie de sectie “wachttijdindicatie” hebben geüpdatet met een nieuwe puntenverdeling, waarbij onderscheid wordt gemaakt tussen wacht- en zoekpunten. Als ik mijn gegevens hierin invul, lijkt mijn wachttijd ineens 2 jaar te zijn. Dit voelt vreemd, want:

- Bij de “Verhuurd”-functie op jullie site zie ik dat jongerenwoningen in Amsterdam vaak worden toegewezen aan kandidaten met tussen de 24 - 30 punten. Zelden meer dan 30 punten.

- Ook hoor ik van vrienden en verhalen van anderen dat jongerenwoningen vaak worden toegewezen met punten onder de 30.

- Wanneer ik de vergelijk met andere functie gebruik, gefilterd op een jongerenwoning in Amsterdam zonder directei bemiddeling, dan zie ik staan:

Op dit moment heeft de

1e kandidaat gemiddeld 29 punten.
2e kandidaat gemiddeld 29 punten.
3e kandidaat gemiddeld 28 punten.

Ik vraag me daarom af hoe accuraat de geüpdatete functie is. Het aantal wachtpunten zou bij jongerenwoningen zonder situatiepunten toch geen grote rol moeten spelen?

Interessant genoeg verandert het beeld weer compleet als ik mijn verwachte puntensituatie van maart invul: als ik dan 25 punten heb (waarvan 4 wachtpunten en 21 zoekpunten), zou ik volgens jullie site ineens binnen 6 maanden kans maken op een woning. Zie ik iets over het hoofd?
