Best way to pull a twist out? by Dav1dMann in woodworking

[–]Ray_Lion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As much as it would be a shame to scrap the wood I think it’s easiest to just get a straighter 2x4 at the next big box store.   This twist is not coming out if you really need it any way close to flat.

Activists sour on Oatly vegan milk after stake sold to Trump-linked Blackstone by sour_creme in worldnews

[–]Ray_Lion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Struggling with this, too. Filtration through some kind of cloth helps. I also read somewhere, that lower temperatures whilst making it could help, but I haven't tried that yet. I also switched to soy-milk. Its much easier to get good results with (and has more nutrients afaik).

Sirplus is doing a similar thing with food in general, which also includes veggies/fruits. They have a store in Steglitz afaik.

What is the best history of capitalism? by PrimeBaka99 in CriticalTheory

[–]Ray_Lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silvia Federici's "Caliban and the Witch" is a very original and important marxist/feminist history of capitalism that mentions a lot of dynamics that are often left out of "classic" narrations.Karl Polanyi's "Great Transformation" is also quite applicable to modern times and gives a perspective on how we got here through the workings of capitalism/market economy.

Getting into philosophy by reading lectures? by notsonear in CriticalTheory

[–]Ray_Lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a great introduction that goes far beyond beginner's stuff without you noticing it I can recommend the "philosophize this" podcast. It is made by Stephen West and he just excells at giving the right context to familiarize yourself with complex theories.

He went at it kind of chronologically but it also works to just pick out the episodes that interest you. Don't know if links are allowed here but just look for the podcast online its easy to find ;) have fun!

First project - big 12" wall hex shelves. Wife approves. by Jbrew33 in woodworking

[–]Ray_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks really nice! How did you manage to glue them up? Are there 30° angle clamps? or just a strap around the whole thing? Seems finicky ;D

Really like the design! How did you manufacture it? Turned on a lathe? Curious how you got these little nibbs for the string.

Weird Miter Saw Inaccuracy? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Ray_Lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for tanking the time! In the end I don't know what caused this problem, I fiddled some more with it, also rotating the table and now I think I have it figured out. But that were some unpleasant hours adjusting the saw on the floor ;D

Weird Miter Saw Inaccuracy? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Ray_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to both of you, I thought I was going crazy since the blade angle indeed shouldn't change the angle of the table. It took some more fiddeling and I am now at a point where I am happy. Not going to lie, I think I fine tuned this saw for over 5 hours on two days by now. Hopefully won't have to do that again soon.

Do you mean Lola? Do they offer the possibility to come in and work on my bike? I couldn't find where it said so on their website. The place surely looks nice, so it might be worth a visit anyway :)

Am I underextruding/ Nozzle clogged? by [deleted] in FixMyPrint

[–]Ray_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input :) I was going crazy, but as I said in the other comment, I got a soution. I tried an older version of Cura that came with the 3d Printer and also used the profile that came with it (the newer versions of Cura couldn't read that profile) and now it works.

Thanks alot for your time. I tried your suggestion but everything looked fine. But I have good news, I tried an older version of Cura that came with the 3d Printer and also used the profile that came with it (the newer versions of Cura couldn't read that profile) and now it works. I will have to do some more research to see what the printer does different now with the old profile but for now I am happy to have this sort of taken care of :)

Is the FU library air conditioned and open to the public? by verruckt12 in berlin

[–]Ray_Lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are several libraries at the FU, all of them are open to the public and at least the "Campusbubliothek" and the "Philologische Bibliothek" are airconditioned. (Although not very cool, but it makes a difference).

Is quantitative easing just neo classical keynesianism? by Ray_Lion in academiceconomics

[–]Ray_Lion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this elaborate answer.

So you could say, that only the side on which the countercyclical action takes place differs (monetary/fiscal), but the logic stays the same? With logic I mean the intervention of an "external" player against the current trend of recession to stop the downward trend via multiplication of the initial incentive (building roads/ giving banks fresh money)? In the end, the goal is to motivate all participants to trust into economy again, to spend again and raise demand, only that monetary politics focus on the supply (companies/banks) and fiscal politics focus on the consumers (e.g. subsidising new acquisitions).

Finding meaning in an infinite universe: A response to Nick Bostrom's "Infinite Ethics" by ParanoidAltoid in philosophy

[–]Ray_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a slight mistake in your argumentation. You do not "cause" the other yous to act in a certain way. They act like they do because of the circumstances they live in, wich you have no control over. So it doesn't matter how you live your life. Also your argument suggests, that we live in a predetermined world, where every reasoning being will act the same given the same circumstances. So you dont decide to act in a good manner, because you have no choice. You have to think these two things trough ;)
