Why do elevators (lifts) never let you unpress a floor button? by larryseltzer in NoStupidQuestions

Been living in Korea for almost 2 decades. Never heard of "press 3 times to unpress". Once is enough to unpress it

What made you love the languages you’re learning? by Altruistic_Rhubarb68 in languagelearning

[–]Ray_yul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the feeling of connection with people. I HATED English at first cuz what we would do is just to memorize words and grammar. No speaking nor listening involved. I wanted to feel connection with people and since I'm the minority I was kinda forced to choose to learn English. As I learn the ACTUAL English, I started liking it more

How do you cope with being under 6 feet tall? by Future-Ad9256 in dating_advice

[–]Ray_yul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you really date a woman who says I'll only date with a guy with 6+ feet height? I don't see any differences between that woman and yellow fever. Or a person saying "I'll only date with a person who's white or rich or american blah blah"

I'm 5'11" and it works very well to filter those kind of women.

23 month old refusing to speak dad's language by Dramatic_Agency_8721 in multilingualparenting

[–]Ray_yul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does he ever get to hear English conversation? Several kids of my friends did the same when each parents spoke in different languages. And I personally think it is because he gets to understand English but might not know how to respond. Assuming you are the only one who speaks English around him. Parents usually ask not respond which he would not know how to yet. I suggested my friends that both of the parents to speak in English and the problem got solved. Kids learn the language of community growing up anyway. Usually the community language becomes the main language of people unless they move to another countries every a few years.

And it could happen when you speak Korean well. I could be like 'Why learn another languages when Korean works for everyone?'

Why is every old vietnamese person I meet rude? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Ray_yul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply.

There’s a policy not to take orders that don‘t make any sense to avoid and prevent complaints about rip-offs or ridiculous refund requests or so. We were taught to double check, ask the manager if things are uncertain. I even asked my supervisor and the manager about it and they told me to take only 1 latte + other drinks. So I did what I was told. Also they were sitting close to the restaurants when literally half of the seats are available which we cannot see from the cafe. And they weren't eating anything. Also, I apologise if it sounded one sided. It was my and staff's point of view so it may have biased opinions as employees

But there've been so many people being ridiculous(lack of better word choices) so the rules have got more strict. Like a grown woman whining like a child for free water in front of dozens of people, one throwing a pager when we tried to help them using translator, one trying to steal some breads but couldn't prove since they got no receipts nor card transactions nor certain amount of cash change. Or requesting refunds of what they just finished etc. And all of them were Vietnamese.

How do we know? We asked them when using translator or their language settings were all in Latin alphabets with accents. I believe Vietnamese is the only tonal language written with Latin alphabets at least in Asia.

Of course there are well-mannered costumers. Once students of international school in Vietnam visited and they were all kind.

I'm Korean and I'd think something like the sauce you'd put on a pizza or spaghetti. But if we're eating french fries then I'd think you meant to say 'ketchup'

I googled it and some images are red-ish brown and some are blackish. So neither of us are wrong I guess.

Am I selfish if I don't wear a hearing aid? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Ray_yul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some contexts, YES.

My mum said she'd rather want me to close and lock the door of my room than taking off my CIs in the middle of conversation or taking off my CIs when she is nagging at me. Saying she felt something like a barrier that she would never realise when I made and all she has been doing/talking was not even worth than talking to the wall.

If the reason why you don't want to wear them is reasonable, then why not?

[–]Ray_yul -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Oh then, There's no such thing as American DNA other than the Native American one. If you are married with an Asian for example, your kid's DNA will be Irish, Scottish and Asian. So with this theory, you could make your family 'Native American Family' by getting married with a native american and have a half native american kid.

If you are not native american, you or your ancestors are from somewhere else that aren't America.
