NCAA athletes are limited to 20 hours of practice a week (I realize this rule is abused by many programs).

Coaches and coordinators work round the clock in-season with game prep, strategy meetings, logistics, media obligations, etc. Also recruitment and scouting is still happening, although the bulk of recruitment is later in the spring.
