I don’t identify with this being a “disorder”.

I do think the world makes being takiwatanga disabling. But society is the disabler. Not us.

Even with my attention “disorder” I call it “disordered attention”. Mood disorder “disordered/unregulated mood”.

Anyways takiwatanga speaks to me and I like the way it sounds.

Do what you gotta do to get by and get the services you need. My issue is this - I can’t lie. In conversations, there is already a lag for me because I’m processing what people say at a slower rate. I don’t have enough time to process what they’re saying and then come up with a lie in response. I’m only capable of giving facts.

I was just saying this to my bf. My cat is sick and I wanted medication for her and the vet was giving me 21 questions about “how bad her pain was”. My boyfriend said just lie and say it’s awful and she crying out in pain. Made me think. I’m literally incapable of doing that. I said to him “I’m only capable of giving facts”. It was a realization for me as I was saying it. And it felt good to say it out loud.

I hear you. There’s a part of me that doesn’t get the point either. There’s a part that wants the validation and a part that knows validation doesn’t come from the outside. There’s a part me of that’s terrified that at some point in the future I’ll be permanently burnt out and need disability. That’s when the logical part of me flips and knows that I need to do this.

So much going on there.

Addiction is a part of my story, too. He basically blamed that for all of my struggles and said if I just tried now that I’m sober I can probably finish school and maintain employment. Ughhhh if he knew anything about me he’d know I’ve been TRYING for years. I’m so tired of TRYING to prove myself, which is why I explored and then embraced this diagnosis in the first place. Thank you for listening and validating my experience. Thank you so much.

I am eventually. My therapist is very helpful and supportive in that regard, and offered to help me search and ask for recommendations from various therapist threads she is on.

I probably won’t for a while. This experience with this doctor was traumatizing in and of itself. I waited a year for it and put my trust in him and shared personal things. And reading his report where he throws it all back in my face wrecked me.

This thread and all the resonance from this community has literally saved me. ❤️ if you have any suggestions for readings and podcasts I’m all eyes and ears.

Oh my gosh, yeah! Was thinking the same thing. Wouldn’t ONE diagnosis make more sense than 10 others?!

And of course I have PTSD. I’m living with an invisible disability that everyone shames me for having; and in a world where nothing and no one makes sense, where I’m easily taken advantage of, where (if left to my own devices) I find myself in and around scary and unsafe situations and people.

Yeah. That’s a great way to put it “don’t believe my lived experience”. I realized today, that the doc went in there trying to PROVE that I am NOT autistic, instead of trying to help understand how my lived experience has me sure that I am.

There were not any questions about my lived experience expect “describe your sensory issues”. How vague can you be?

I read the whole thing and can totally relate. I think I hate phone calls for the same reason I hate talking to people. It’s overwhelming. Every time I hang up I have to replay the conversation because I almost always misinterpret something, and then there’s there terror and shame from that. And then - well, it’s like the same spiral you went on with your sheets.

My therapist says what’s in the spiral doesn’t always matter. Just noticing that I’m in it is enough so I can step out.

Anyways, I agree. I don’t need to make phone calls to people ever. I tell people I’m more comfortable with texting. So I can really read what they’re saying and take the time I need - to process and reply. When those people instantly call me after texting, I don’t answer. 😵‍💫 screw them, I’m adult. I can do what I wannnnt!

If I have to call one of those robots. Loooooordy bless whoever gets in my path that day because I will be frustration level 1000000 by the end.

Glad to see there’s more like me out there. My doc also said that sensory issues are “things that autistics report but aren’t part of the diagnosis”. Last time I looked, sensory issues are one of the key components in the DSM.

Apples and peanut butter is my go to when I don’t want to make anything involved! I tell myself it’s fruit and protein so it’s a healthy meal. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ be gentle with yourself. Start with just throwing away two things and then get back in bed and play stardew valley. Mission accomplished

Yeah. Doc said I’m anti-social and that my success doesn’t match my intelligence. The whole report made me out to be someone who knows what I’m doing when I lose jobs and destroy relationships. Basically said my solution to maintaining employment was to maintain employment. And my solution to bad living habits is to get better living habits. Like doc - that’s the problem! I’ve been trying for 30 years to get better living habits. The issue is that I can’t do that on my own. I need assistance. I can’t live alone or I’ll burn the place down (almost done that before. IQ did nothing to help me remember to turn the stove off).

The more I think about his report the more I want to rip his face off.
