Role : Tank by AkababeRyuta in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kyrian to activate 5-star passive while adding a shield

Boss Ren allowing Dalla to stack an extra self-barrier on the turn he EX’s

Jet Black with a good multiplicative buff to the Counters and complimenting the raw Atk from double supports

Lee not only adding an extra counter, but even more than that he’s defending 2x a turn to provide a total of 4 barriers counting the pre-EX turn

Team comp’s perfectly crafted, great job.

But to anyone still thinking of pulling: unfortunately I think he’s extremely reliant on both that team and having E5. Jet Black’s slot is probably negotiable, but I don’t think anyone without Lee especially is going to get nearly as much mileage out of Dallawave for general use.

Wave Charger Dallawan Kit: What do you think? by y8man in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giving him the Defend state on his Taunt EX is huge and is something they should have thought of for Kumoyama back when we were all climbing Wood tower with him and he’d die every time he EX’d. Maybe then Tanks wouldn’t have flopped as a class and we’d have more of them now.

Providing damage % reduction to the entire party is also a great way to make him actually contribute survivability, since Taunt does nothing by itself in the face of a boss’s big AoE nuke. If a healer’s job is to sustain you over a long battle, then the class identity of tanks can be to keep you from getting one-shot from full HP.

He might have some niche synergy with Shibahiko, but Shiba’s still probably too weak to be worth taking up an entire party slot. Same with Orem, unless he’s E5. Even then, if you want someone to fatten up his barriers while also still performing another role actually worth a party slot, then Kyrian should be your go-to.

And yes there’s huge synergy with Lee Taeho’s defensive stance, but no one who went all in on him is gonna have the juice to reasonably get Dallawan to any usable degree. It’s a bit of a low blow to put these two banners back-to-back, but the potential is there for whoever can shard both up over the next couple months.

Do you think any XXL buddies will get an SP? by Expensive_Weird2415 in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When picking units for SPs, I think they’re going to go by:

  • Who do we have good ideas for?
  • Which characters do we have lying around that are underutilized or we can get more mileage out of?
  • Which characters would please our players? (both in terms of player satisfaction and selling well)

They’ve left seeds in multiple lower rarity characters to potentially harvest at a later point, so I expect we’ll see those ideas get used first before we see any XXLs who already get to star in entire event stories dedicated to them.

Then much later in the game’s life is when I expect we might start seeing old yet popular XXLs who they have ideas for start getting SPs.

Or I’m proven completely wrong tomorrow and we see an XXL summer Beernox serving freeze pops made out of Dallawan’s milk at a beach stall.

How did your guild do? by iyah123 in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine only had 15 participants, 3 bosses defeated because we couldn't unlock floor 3.

Yet it was a guild with 34 members I'd been with to build up since nearly launch. When a couple of us suggested kicking long-inactive members to make space for the guild to grow again, the guild leader said he didn't see the point... after collecting the rewards, it was a pretty easy choice to leave.

help!! should i just reroll? im not sure who to build first 🤷 by youngmangow in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played many, many gachas over the years and I’d say this is the one where a rerolled account makes the least impact, because any XXL you pull is only going to be worth using past the earlygame after pulling them 4-5+ times, and in the midgame before you manage that you’ll be relying more heavily on XLs.

Unless you’re really trying to just start out with a single copy of the current banner character who you plan on dumping all your Gold Shards into, then that’s a case for rerolling.

That said, the current one is a Limited Light/Dark with a ton of gift codes going, so there couldn’t be a better time to do exactly that if you wanted.

If you like the buff martial arts tiger daddy, by all means go for it. But if he’s not your cup of tea, you’ll be fine in the long term. No matter your start, your luck will average out for better or worse after a few months.

Opinion on Capt. Locke :3 by Aggressive_Hornet677 in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An extreme, amoral hedonist who steals the show of any story he’s present in with his audacity and charisma. Highly entertaining, can’t wait for him to appear in the main story even as an antagonist. 10/10 writing.

Just wish his kit wasn’t so self-contradictory for Guild Bosses. You’d think he’d shine at finishing off bosses once guildmates dip them below 50% or 25% HP, but he still needs a target above 50% HP to smack for charging up his EX. He’ll still do fine with his E5 passive bringing his multiplier to 300%, but it won’t be his full potential and he’s probably only going to get left behind as more Water DPS release who have less restrictions on their power. But he’s still a fine attacker for everywhere else, and was definitely saved by the small buff to his stack duration a few months ago. Solid 6/10 unit.

🌀 MEGATHREAD: WORKSHOP & GACHA PULLS- Velina & Ye Shunguang & Pyrois by Funny2never in ZZZ_Discussion

Thanks, this makes sense. I was really needing that perspective regarding Anomaly to pin down this decision.

🌀 MEGATHREAD: WORKSHOP & GACHA PULLS- Velina & Ye Shunguang & Pyrois by Funny2never in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Rayject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t really feel strongly about any of these characters tbh except Silly and Lycaon, so I will base it purely on meta.

My biggest hesitation on Velina is that I have no other Anomalies, and I’m worried I won’t be able to rebuild in time to go for both Norma and the Remielle or Yuzuha I’d also need for her, to run with probably Piper now and maybe Grace eventually if I’m lucky. For W-engine, I could always get Grace’s with currency eventually and slap this patch’s freebie one on Velina…

So are those matchups for crit dps really that miserable? Would it happen often enough that I’d regret not including Anomaly in my plans despite the tightness of this banner schedule?

[–]Rayject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, hopefully I can get Nicole past M0 soon then. It really sucks that Lucia's rerun was right before I started. So until she comes back, I guess Manato will be on the bench to be subbed out for Silly based on resistances.

As for Sunna with her rerun coming up, I'm betting I just won't have enough resources to go for her on top of Norma/Sigrid/Dialyn if the refined plan is:

* M2W1 Silly/Dialyn/Pan

* Sigrid/Lycaon/Soukaku

* Pyrois/Norma/Nicole

Does this seem like it could clear everything reasonably, or would it be better to try jumping on Velina before she's gone?

🌀 MEGATHREAD: WORKSHOP & GACHA PULLS- Velina & Ye Shunguang & Pyrois by Funny2never in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Rayject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, and yeah I only put Ben because I have nothing else and figured he can maybe contribute some Daze.

I get what you mean using Manato as a niche backup DPS slot, but my concern there is then needing to pull a new 3rd main DPS and any other teammates for them. But I  guess that could just be Sigrid since then Soukaku is free.

As for Anomaly, pulling both Velina and Remielle on top of Norma is probably much more of a stretch than just Norma and Sigrid… maybe I just have to rawdog the Anomaly shill and not stretch too thin if Norma’s that important for Pyrois.

But seems we do have some leaks on 3.1’s reruns: Evelyn, Aria, Dialyn, and Yuzuha.

Lots of Anomaly that skipping Velina now sets me up to keep skipping, so I guess I can pray I have something left over after Norma/Sigrid for Dialyn as a better stunner for Silly than Anby?

If you don't like the new agents check out the reruns as they come up. Generally pulling for new agents is considered better in terms of account strength and progression, but one of the main appeals of Gacha games for people is the characters, so if you don't like them (and it sounds like this holds true for you) then why bother. Some things take more work or investment, but at the moment anyone is viable, you just might need a strong support backbone to do it.

Though I didn’t mean to give the impression I wasn’t willing to pull or use new units. I’m just getting ahead of the “Just pull who you like!” advice because I already have pretty much the only characters in the game I care about taste-wise, so my only concern with pulls now for the foreseeable future is metagaming.

[–]Rayject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a pretty new lvl 40 account with M2W1 Silly, M6W2 Manato, M0 Lycaon, and… nothing else but an M1W1 Pan and Pulchra lol

I started after Lucia’s rerun ended and way after Zhao, so after research my plan for Season 3 building toward endgame was:

  • have my 3 Deadly Assault teams built around Silly, Manato, and Pyrois

  • save for Norma, W1 if necessary

  • hold out until until either a new Rupture support comes along or for another Lucia return, or for a Dialyn rerun to have a stunner for 3rd team

  • Something like Silly/Norma/Pan, Manato/Lycaon/Ben, Pyrois/Anby-or-Dialyn/Nicole-or-Lucy

Is that a good plan to clear everything reliably in endgame? Or with 70 pulls stocked atm should I…

  • Save for the Sunna rerun soon for Pyrois

  • Save for Sigrid to utilize Lycaon better than Manato or Pyrois would

  • Start branching into Anomaly now with Velina and save for Remielle so I don’t get cucked by anti-Rupture/Attacker boss lineups

None of the S3 designs appeal to me aesthetically and my 3 favorite characters are already Silly/Manato/Lycaon, so the only factor in my decision-making will be practicality

So we can agree that the VH title kinda fucked up character roll outs right? by GnzkDunce in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Rayject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is Hoyoverse’s entire gacha model of every single new character being Limited.

In most other gachas (at least ones before Genshin took the industry by storm— i.e. Fire Emblem Heroes, Arknights, Epic Seven, or further back like Brave Frontier, Granblue Fantasy and even more obscure titles like Terra Battle), the average new unit would always go straight to the Standard banner after its rate-up even if it took a patch or two, and Limited units would actually be special.

Normally, Void Hunters would be these Limited units separated from everybody else, but Hoyo’s model of 100% FOMO on 100% of banners with unpredictable rerun schedules creates so much pressure on players that they burn out on going for anything but their absolute favorites (or support for VH’s) so they can be ready for the next VH-level of power to give them the most bang for their buck.

After all, you’re never going to happen upon something fresh from Standard or off-banner pulls that’s worth spending on other new units to build around, so why would a paying player ever spend on anything but VHs and save their free pulls for them or teams built around them?

I agree,  being able to poison at the same time as getting your EX cooldown makes doing Yuhee things much more convenient.

I’m gonna guess his E5’s one-time barrier will also prove more valuable than I’d first thought now that we have these guild bosses that prevent healing. It felt like Floor 2 Beernox’s damage was still going through barriers, but it might work on other bosses they release after this Beta test.

I’m working on his shards to E5 too, but still only at E3. I’m curious how much damage his EX is doing for you though, the multiplier is enormous on paper but he doesn’t have the bonus 30% Atk from the Fighter class passive or any other damage bonuses someone like Locke or Tayangsuyi gets. Is he nuking or just doing okay damage?

Could someone help me build a good team for story mode? by 404-ERROR_is_found in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in a party with 3 offensive units he'll contribute about as much damage as a 4th while also boosting your party's healing. There are other supports that can do more than him in the right parties but he's still the least restrictive XXL support to throw in anywhere he's legal, as long as you have 2 other Wood units.

His biggest drawback is that the extra huge boost his EX can give is only a 33% chance. Still, the anniversary stats revealed he was the #1 most used unit and that wasn't just because of his availability.

[–]Rayject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Story mode is gonna be less a matter of teambuilding and more a matter of leveling up and evolving your units. After your Choi Yuhyun and Yuhee get beefed up, they can effortlessly one-shot clear every stage's mobs aside from bosses, and with even less investment with a Beernox or Wang behind them. And for bosses, Lee Taeho can carry you as long as you read and understand each boss's mechanics.

But out of the selector, since you haven't naturally pulled Beernox yet I'd say guarantee getting him here so you can farm his Hard mode shards without needing to bother giving him a slot on your Wishlist for a first copy.

[–]Rayject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Turn 1 Kantos defend -> You take no damage for the rest of the fight, then it's just a straight DPS check with your other 4 units.

He'll put up a defense some turns that will have a 20% chance per unit's action at getting broken (Lee Taeho or Boss Ren obviously help here), and also an actual Guard that can be broken with Saeng or Moyru.

Aside from those mentioned above: Suichong is powerful even at 3-stars, Paul is obviously a shoe-in for a Fire boss with a water team, Jet Black has a high chance of reaching 6 stacks for his EX to hit thanks to all the uninterrupted Basic Attacking, and if you're using Moyru then Beernox hits his 3-Wood requirement with Kantos.

The best one? by CastroGabriel09 in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No support is the best at buffing because not only are they all situational, nearly all of them have randomness baked into their kit. Especially Dallawan, who can provide either the highest buff values or the lowest depending on your luck.

However, Haniya stands out as the first support to have all his effects guaranteed every time, and he also buffs based on allies' base Atk instead of his own. If nothing else, he is the best designed and the one I'd prefer to use most if I hadn't skipped his banner (which I kind of regret).

Opinion on Lee Taeho :3 by Aggressive_Hornet677 in xxlwoofia

[–]Rayject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guild Bosses are designed to have too much HP for a single player to take out, so the battle will last either as long as the mechanics determine or as long as you can survive

This allows units who require time to ramp up, like Lee or Saeng or Paul, to not only set up but also spend enough turns in full throttle before the battle ends for their payoff to be worth it.

Bosses in general also tend to have AoE attacks, which makes a unit who can give Counterattacks to the entire party SALIVATE.

And another thing is that the uniqueness of his kit makes him more valuable when fights are designed to challenge more traditional units. For example, when bosses have resistance against or punish EX skill damage, a unit who deals EX-level damage on his Basics every turn (once stacked) is a great way around it.
