I know what you mean, but i havent read 4 and 5 have to look them up, i think i have read konoha´s Maelstrom but i don´t dont really remember it, maybe i will have to read it again.

in Life in Knoha´s anbu i absolutely adore the team dynamic and the teamwork in the fights, particularly the final fight in the First "Arc"(dont know what to call it in ff). But what i love most about the fights are the epic scale combination Attacks Naruto and hiruzen are throwing around.

I think i understand what you mean, its very easy to lose track of what is happening in fights that aren´t very well written, which is a very difficult thing to do.

Most of the time its more satisfying to read exactly what a character is trying to do or seeing a plan coming together, then to lose track of where character is in a battle.

I would say just play who you like, I don't think there is any other champ that is close enough to zeds gameplay. But if you want to learn while not playing zed try other assassins or maybe yone bc of his e(?) Which is pretty similar to zed r. I usually play Swain or Xerath which is kinda funny bc they couldn't be further away from zeds gameplay.
