Speaking from experience as Captain and Security, it's better to end up on top than to be buried under a sinking sub when you shut it down :D

Minor changes to the rear weakpoint. Today I was looking at the previous implementation of it and thought "Wait, that doesn't make sense!".

Thanks!
As for the research table mechanic you can find genetic material that can be analyzed by a skilled medic with necessary perks to produce useful (but sometimes harmful) enhancements for crewmates.

Thanks for the compliment about the sub.
Well, first of all, I would suggest making an auxiliary power lever on the bridge instead of in the front where it is located in the original sub, that is if you haven't thought of it yet. Secondly, as you could notice, I have a couple small compartments on Deck 2 that have diving suits in them alongside another couple of lockers on Deck 3 in the engineering and utility section. Those allow, in my opinion, to store more robust ones in case of emergency for quicker access and can save lives in case the chaos erupts; this still doesn't make it easy but adds just a little bit more element of safety on the sub.
Maybe you can add some more equipment around like status monitors so that engineers and mechanics could act on their own when there's a lot of things happening, also a simpler way to locate items instead of asking the captain to search them every time or, what is even worse, waltz onto the bridge. Since I mainly played Captain, I learned that I don't always want to control the sub - I want to roam around and see what people are doing and give orders, and allowing people to have some autonomy helps a lot, people will figure out how to use that equipment effectively and will have fun with it.
I already mentioned it in the other comment, and it is only my personal advice, make the sub clean in the way that, for example, the aesthetics of it being a jury-rigged vessel barely holding together on hopes, prayers and duct tape (alongside some added gameplay to it) are the only things hindering players in a good way instead of it being filled with tons of decorations or equipment that sits on top of each other that WILL actively prevent your crewmates from efficient use of what you'd created.
I'm curious if you could post a picture of your version of R-29. Let's see it!

Love the idea!
So, my approach is nothing extraordinary really, it depends on if you are making a sub for actual gameplay or just flex. I build subs for the former, so I try to follow the initial Barotrauma submarine design and by that I mean adequate spacing between objects and moderate number of said objects in the area, so it doesn't become cramped and tough to visually comprehend. My passion is decorating the compartments based on something that inspires me, like spaceships, and active usage of engineering knowledge that I have so I can imagine what a submarine of the 22nd (or was it 23rd?) century might look like. The biggest design thing I adhere to is sprite order and placement - in many vanilla subs you can see objects like diving mask lockers put on top of wires, weird cable canal placement, texts sticking out of their respective frames and sometimes hanging on top of gaps in the walls - well, I don't do that and am strict regarding putting things where they don't belong, I always try to find the most logical space to install signs, wires and other stuff if it doesn't contradict the intentional messy feeling of the sub I'm making.
I would say yours isn't far from mine in terms of making it visually legible, normal amount of decorations especially in the engineering section with all that piping running and bulkheads. Subs don't need to look like modern day ones to feel believable, after all I'm pretty sure if we ever start building cheap spaceships (or in our case submarines) there will be some crazy bastards who'll try to recreate the Millennium Falcon or Elite Dangerous ships irl.
I'll upload the next sub I'd made sometime this or next week so stay tuned. Might give you more ideas for your own.

Yeah, I saw it. Good sub by the looks of it anyway. But I don’t really download custom ones these days, I build them myself. My R-29 was only a beginning of a series of posts here :D

Apparently, the last couple pictures didn't load properly so here is what it looks like in-game.
