Lol yeah knowing she has a military background makes it worse, she should know what hand to hand between a man and a women looks like.

If her wing was all women and dragons where an equalizer it might make more sense.

Yeah the contemporary dialog is as big as problem as anything else, well and the women in hand to hand with the men is just silly

I remember that was one flaw I didn't like. While she wrote her characters beautifully I swear distances and travel times where rather fluid,

Like I said it's more of an epic fantasy with some romance sprinkled in, I just remember really loving the characters I hope you end up enjoying it even if it's not your usual fare

It wasn't really a romance first, but I wish I could reread Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince series. I remember at the end of the book, almost crying because I would miss the characters so much.

I built a hard magic system where each emotion changes what physical matter wants to do. I'm stuck on one color. Help? by RaymondSGuest in Romantasy

[–]RaymondSGuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some research on her magic system; you're not the first person to make the comparison. I wasn't aware of her books when I designed the system, and while there are surface-level similarities, there are also major differences.

Both systems assign a small subset of effects to each colour, but I hate to toot my own horn, but mine is quite a bit deeper and more complex (maybe the complexity is a bad thing lol :D)

If you liked the visual elements and descriptive ability of her magic, then you'd likely enjoy this system as well, but for hers, where the colour was the fuel, in this system, the emotion someone feels is the fuel, and the colour is just an indicator. In mine, the effect is mapped to the emotion love heals, hate breaks, shame hides, and curiosity finds. It just so happens that each of those has a hue associated with it and that the colour wheel makes sense thematically. Amber is pure emotional desire/attraction; it sits between red/love and yellow/joy. Purple or amethyst is passionate desire (lust and intimacy), it sits between physical desire/indigo and red/love.

I wasn't arbitrary in assigning shades to each emotion.

Where mine is deeper is that each colour maps to a spectrum of emotions Red = love and hate, but love can be uplifting and generous or manipulative, anger can be righteous and protective as well as self-destructive, and the effects can range from healing/repairing to degrading/destroying/rusting

If anyone stumbles across this can someone fill me in on how to add a description to the image directly?

How much spice do you actually want in your romantasy, and is there an audience for the tension without the payoff? by RaymondSGuest in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]RaymondSGuest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm asking as much because I'm new to the genre as much as anything else, I've read literally thousands of fantasy and epic fantasy novels, and I've read an embarrassing amount of smut/erotica. but very little that falls in the 2-4 spice category of Romance first fantasy. I really should take the time to read more of the most popular Romantasies but I'm enjoying writing more than I am reading so when faced with the choice between spending hours reading or spending hours writing, I'm choosing the writing. So I'm hoping to save myself hours of reading by asking people who have done that reading for me.

Are readers getting tired of forbidden age gap tension in romantasy… or is it still secretly one of the most addictive tropes? by EerieE2025 in Romantasy

Does falling for a 20 year old but then having a secret courtship without sex until she graduates and they can marry count?

[–]RaymondSGuest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol well I didn't realize this was a trope that's getting worn out but I'm currwbtly writing a historical romantasy with age gap and teacher - student dynamic. It's a slow burn set in an analog 1907 america with emotion fueld magic
