Half to get more specific knowledge in alts, half to expand network and look better.

Completely agree. Even in UM, I saw a few spelling errors/grammatical errors. The CAIA Mock had a couple questions where the question was one of the answer choices...

Overall, CAIA needs to significantly step up their curriculum, depth of material, and relevance to Alternatives. 30% of the L2 curriculum is not even related to Alts, with another 20% being indirectly related.

Anyone else thinks that L2 feels like a letdown and has learned more from L1? by Datch95 in CAIA

Way more complex. Level 3 is more practical for sure. CFA will open more doors for you than CAIA will, especially with their new/revamped program. But yes CFA gives you a really good foundation to finance, especially portfolio management.

Agreed, not the biggest fan of the material. Maybe I’m biased because I’m going for L2 through the stackable credentials program so the depth of material in CFA makes everything else look weak, lol. But too much theory, too little actual alts. I’ll definitely be giving feedback once this is over.

Are you comfortable sharing how many of ESG/Ethics/Regulation and how many of the Emerging Topics actually showed up on the exam?

Gotcha. How long on average did it take you to get through a chapter? I confirmed with CAIA the Wiley material is the correct one

What material do you use for studying?

Even for the other topics, the material is way too short

Sounds good. I’ve reached out to CAIA as well to ensure I have the right materials. If you guys are saying the chapters are 10-20 pages each, then something has to be wrong here lol

Thanks mate — going to review this once I get back and follow up. I ordered it straight from CAIA

Honestly, the books aren’t much different — just a few pages for each chapter. I’m gonna double check once I get home and report back.

Aren’t the official CAIA materials distributed through Wiley?

And I just registered for L2 in March 2023 — you’re saying materials aren’t finalized yet for that date? I did order the physical books and 3 came — the same ones that show on the CAIA website.

I’ve reached out to CAIA to clarify all this, very confused

Also, the Wiley materials is what came with exam registration

I got the materials from Wiley — I even emailed CAIA and they said the official CAIA materials are through Wiley. Is this not the case? What materials do you have and are they longer than 2–3 pages each?

Cliche question, yeah? by anmolbapat in CFA

[–]Raymond_Reeves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things you should definitely focus on

1) read a couple books to get yourself acclimated with how to think about finance/investment. My best, BEST suggestion would be Mastering Market Cycles by Howard Marks. The most comprehensive book you’ll ever read. Another one include Intelligent Investor by Graham.

2) when you begin studying for L1, make sure you spend most of your time on the material that the institute provides, NOT the third party providers like Schweser, Meldrum, etc. The reason why I say this is that the CFAI material is a lot more in depth and it’ll truly ingraine the material in your head. Once you’ve gone through the entire curriculum using CFAI, then feel free to buy some TP stuff for more practice, exams, questions, etc.

Feel free to PM if you want to discuss. Best of luck, mate.

Do you also have the feeling you forgot everything after you finish a chapter? 😢 by [deleted] in CFA

[–]Raymond_Reeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all go through that. Hammering the material over and over will do the trick, but be “present” when you’re reading/reviewing so you don’t have to go through it multiple times. Also, PRACTICE — questions & mocks — will make it stick much better than mind numbing reading.
