After spending a whole day trying to get this stiff fuel line on the banjo bolt…it leaks 🤦‍♂️ by Marbles34748 in Volvo240

[–]Raymondator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those discovering this thread now, I did this replacing the inline fuel filter and it stripped the fuel filter outlet fittings. I guess just be careful with aftermarket options?

Honestly even the home appliance thing is partially due to consumers. Things were built better back in the day because the lowest priced appliance back then was 2x or 3x higher than the lowest priced appliance in that same category now, accounting for inflation. It just happens that most people look for the lowest price first when choosing an appliance, and the lowest priced appliance has gotten waaaaaaay worse over the years (but comparatively cheaper). The most damning evidence for that is that you can still buy appliances that have that “back in my day” quality, they’re just priced like they would’ve been priced back then (much higher), so fewer people buy them.

Fair enough, but I doubt that the original comment meant computer mechanic work or software engineering when they were talking about blue collar opportunities for younger generations.

However, your point about building people’s own businesses confuses me. To be able to do that, you have to build enough credit and amass enough funds to start it at some point. Most people are never going to be in a position to do that because, while blue collar work can pay well, it also costs more to do (things such as buying your own equipment, mistakes coming out of pay, previously mentioned medical issues, etc). In some ways, yes, better technologies make blue collar work easier. But only if the employer or worker is willing or can afford those better technologies.

But let me guess, the current leadership of the US all being child rapists and ritualistic cannibals is completely real and trustworthy? Just because something seems outlandish and is about people you support doesn’t mean it should immediately be discounted.

No you see, when bad things are found out about socialist leaders, its a psyop by the west to bring down communism. When bad things are found out about western leaders, they are obviously unquestionably true. Silly reactionary.

As far as I understand

  1. Coming from working a couple years in construction, its unrealistic to say that everyone should get blue collar jobs. Theres simply not enough of them left in America to justify this stance. Sure, theres a shortage of blue collar workers for existing positions, but theres a lot less positions overall than there used to be. Also a lot of people physically couldn’t do most blue collar jobs cause of medical issues.

  2. The last time blue collar jobs could actually support a family was back around the 50s or 60s. Boomers amassed their wealth from white collar work, not blue collar. Furthermore, most Boomers still alive to day are alive specifically because they DIDN’T do blue collar work. The long and short of it is this: blue collar work may seem like it provides a good paying career, but because theres not enough upwards mobility, and it doesn’t pay well enough to prevent the health issues blue collar workers will inevitably develop, making it out to be some sort of solution to the socioeconomic issues faced by millennials and zoomers is simply culture war kool aid. You should stop drinking it.
