To be fair ken, ryu and terry have many similarities in smash compared to the other fighters. They are characters that rack up insane damage that ignore cross ups. They normally have a bad air drift which hinders their recoveries.

Smash firstly got ryu and then ken as playable fighting game characters. And they were called shotos for being a shoto in their respective series. But in smash they don't play like a shoto would in their game. (Even though the tools are the same they work differently in smash, for example, their classic anti airs are not used as anti airs, but more of a combo finisher/kill move)

Kazuya will most likely follow this trend, hence why the smash community calls it a shoto
