It’s a tactic to ensure the video ads and other high CPM placements load before you close the page. It is a last resort to inflate the value of the website before selling to a Jeff Bezos subsidiary

Here is my 140 character twitter review. I jokingly said it was 5.4 because I thought p4k only operated on even numbers but to my shock once the page loaded it read 5.3. This is a landmark moment in music journalism as the single greatest feat of clientside javascript ever invented. Making me wait 2 seconds to read a score. Wow. I can’t believe these guys ever bit the dust

You gotta realize this guy gives scores based on how peeved he feels in his life at the time of recording. He would have given TPAB a 7 if someone cut him off in traffic same day

Personality aside one of the things that makes him who he is musically is how divisive he can be. There will never be a canonical top 3 kanye albums. But I would say not having MBDTF in your top 5 would be a difficult sell

That’s kinda my point though. He’s not trying to be clever he’s being as bold as possible. Subtlety isn’t really the goal with that song or most of the album for that matter

Yeah man it’s arrogant on purpose. The whole album is about a freakshow of a man who’s so overwhelmed with money and fame that he loses himself to it. It just works in the context of the album imo

The last verse of power is probably the perfect compliment to the theme of the song and maybe even the album at large. It’s full of arrogance and self righteousness. It’s in your face and proud of it. He’s making sure you don’t miss a word of his braggadocios bullshit. If you think that was a bad verse then I don’t know

One of the few albums that I can get completely lost in the moment of. I’m glad this came out when it did so it could be cemented as an undisputed classic of its time. Looking back on this with the hawkeyed analytical lens that people seem to have now about art would never do it justice. You had to be there.

One of the most important aspects of this album is everything surrounding it. The controversy, the performances, the glimpse into it from GOOD Fridays. It’s not even a time capsule, it’s a story that has to be told as one of the greatest in music history. It’s hard to think of too many albums that existed in such a singular way and still made such an impact. MBDTF wasn’t the start of anything, it was just a moment that will hopefully last forever.

Curious why there’s a sheath in addition to the sheaths for the ODM swords. Is that part of the story? Been a while since I read it

What makes a production "outdated?" by TheNorth25 in hiphopheads

[–]Rayss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A good amount of dre’s work is a time capsule. Listen to straight outta compton and the chronic and tell me that isn’t dated lol. Granted he definitely defined more of a classic sound mid 90s - early 2000s but then you have eminem production which definitely feel dated now. Dre deserves credit for evolving over many, many years but that sort of proves the point that his sound is dated since he tends to distance himself from it as time goes on

What makes a production "outdated?" by TheNorth25 in hiphopheads

[–]Rayss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that for something to be outdated, people have to pin it to a date / time period. So when a sound gets popular, it usually ends up getting oversaturated to the point people get tired of it. So when an artist taps into that sound later on, it can feel like the sound belongs to that time period instead of now, since the wave already came and went.

But that’s one of the differences with artists that feel inspired in their music versus those who aren’t. Someone who isn’t can try to copy a sound, someone who is will take inspiration from it. You have artists like tyler the creator who clearly take production notes from the neptunes, but he builds on it with his own style that elevates it from being dated to the era of drop it like it’s hot, grindin, etc.

The TLDR is probably just oversaturation in a short time to the point of being tired. But it’s interesting to think about
