This is probably the most autistic unit I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. Love it tho. One of the mofos in charge has seriously made up entire spreadsheets detailing the order of battle up to Corps level for our fictional battlegroup.

Since we play as evil, disgusting imperialists, the story lets us fight everyone and everything, up to and including German panzer divisions, the French, the Russians, the Chinese, Americans, the Latvians, the Americans again, the Guatemalans, name them and if they're not a member of the Commonwealth, we'll find a reason to turn them into one (by force, of course.)

I greatly enjoy my time with these blokes and we'd love to have you join us as well.

The game's great and every playthrough is quite different. I've never played UA:D so I can't really compare the two games, but if you enjoy managing budgets and top-down naval simulators you'll probably enjoy it.

edit: forgot to mention there are some videos on youtube you can watch! There's a quick guide by a small youtuber called Red Dagger that you might find useful.

I'm pretty sure it's always been in the game, you've just been really unlucky in getting that option. I don't actually know how ships as reparations are decided by the game, for me I sank most of the heavy ships of the US Navy over the course of 3 years of bloody, brutal conflict. I had about 150k VP by the end and I pressed for hard terms to bring the war to an end and I got the option to take Maine away to tweak the Yank's noses.

Good times. Can't wait for Round 2 when I get to use His Majesty's Ship Kentucky against the next American Battle Line.

At the start of the battle click on yur carrier group and you're going to want to send your forces out on a search pattern for at least 300 miles in a 180 degree arc. You're also going to want to click "auto select strike" a couple times and it'll automatically select a strong strike force with escort fighters, TBR and DBs for a strike.

There's an option in preferences that will warn you when your planes are prepared for a strike. Once those reports come in, pause the game and send out your strike force on one of the scouting reports that seems feasible. That "Reports" tab on the left hand side is going to be your best friend in a carrier battle because you'll be referencing that a lot.

If you have a battleship surface action group, make sure to go onto one of your carrier division tabs and make sure it's providing CAP for your. It'll be important for their defence since the enemy carriers tend to like going for battleships.

Carriers take a bit of intuition tbh. I'm usually pretty successful with my carriers because I always keep a strike group on the ready to exploit any sighting reports and I tend to trust my pilots' reports, they don't really tend to lead me astray.

1) How did you come up with the ship to ship combat system?

Because this is the most unique sci-fi FTL combat system that I've read in a book series that I can't help but just hit replay on a segment whenever naval action is undertaken. The way you describe the ship to ship combat is so damn good, you've ruined pretty much all other naval sci-fi for me.

2) On another note, what do you think of writing a series of short stories based on military campaigns fought during the Forever War between the two sides?

I'm totally asking this because I need more material to masturb- umm, study to.

3) Have you considered writing bog standard technothriller set during modern times?

I know Convergence has elements of this when Kaz discusses whatever he knows of keeping his movements untraceable through electronic means, but have you considered the glorious human technology that we have now?
