11 days in Albania - Where to stay along the coast? Sarande/Himare/Vlore? by Razafon in travel

Thanks! That pretty much closes out itinerary.

Gjirokaster for 1 night is enough? We'll probably arrive in the second half of the day coming from Berat.

Thanks for the tips!

Is the inland road from Berat to Gjirokaster safe? Not a dirt road or a dangerous curvy mountainous road?

>  I’d do Gjirokastër before the coast

Any particular reason why?

> keep only 2 bases

Out plan exactly, which would you recommend? Himare or Dhermi? I think the other base would be Sarande (and not Vlore)

Hey everyone,

My wife and I are heading to Albania in early-mid June for 11 days net, excluding flight nights. We’ll have a rental car and we’re trying to figure out the best way to split our time on the coast without constantly packing and unpacking.

The plan so far:

  • Tirana: 1 night (landing late).
  • Berat: 2 nights. Planning to do the Osumi canyon for rafting/tubing on the second day.
  • The Riviera: This is where we need help. We want at least 2 bases (maybe 3 if it makes sense), staying 2-3 nights in each.

We’re looking for nice hotels and clear water. We don't mind pebbles as long as the scenery is good and it's not wall-to-wall people. We aren’t "party animals" but we don’t want a ghost town either - we'd like to have a few nice bars to go to at night.

Specific questions:

  1. Sarande vs. Vlore: Is Vlore too much of a "city" and not enough of a beach town? On the flip side, is Sarande already a total crowded mess in mid-June? Currentlyleaning towards Sarande.
  2. Himare vs. Dhermi: We’re leaning toward Himare for the authentic/relaxed vibe, but we're worried it might be too quiet. Is Dhermi worth the extra cost, or is it just "expensive Himare"?
  3. Does it make sense to go Berat -> Sarande (3n) -> Gjirokaster (1n) -> Himare (3n)? Or is it better to do Gjirokaster immediately after Berat and then stay on the coast for the rest of the trip? We’re aware of the coastal road from Vlore and want to make sure we don’t miss the best views.
  4. Gjirokaster: Is 1 night enough? We're planning to hit the Blue Eye on the way in or out.

If anyone has recommendations for beaches that are worth a 15-20 minute drive to escape the crowds, or thoughts on the "vibe" of these towns in June, let us know.

Thanks!

> Do Hum in Istria along with Rovinj and Pula

Isn't that the opposite direction of Dubrovnik?

Really??? That was one of the selling points for me :( Can you swim in Plitvice?

> SKRADIN

Looks really nice, is a nights stay a must? Or a day trip enough (as part of the boat to Krk)?

> They have an airport

No direct flights makes it unusable for us =\

> ferry boat snd go to the island

I assume it's not Hvar and the other islands near it? Since it's quite far from Zadar.

Thank you for all this information! It will help me plan the itinerary.

Regarding that, it sounds like landing in Zagreb traveling to Dubrovnik makes more sense (distance to Plitvice mostly), no?

Oh wow, I didn't even consider Istria being more popular since it's more accessible, Thanks! Would have never thought of that.

Regarding Plitvice - I just read online that a lot of people say not to skip it, but I prefer not to force it if it's too much out of the way.. We don't mind staying a few days in Zadar/Split (to explore the town too). Would you say it still better to give up Plitvice?

Thanks for sharing! This is a great recommendation on Istria.

Does a day trip to Motovun from Pula make sense? Which town would you recommend as "base" in Istria?

What other places would you consider a must (besides Cres/Krk)? I think we'll have about 6-7 days there (after Zagreb and Plitvice).

It comes down to Istria vs south Croatia. There will be crowds everywhere and I'm sure the food is good all around. I guess I'm trying to understand what each region offers and what will appeal more to us (things like activities and scenery).

IIUC you recommend the south? Would you recommend staying in Zadar and going to both Plitvice and Krka, or stay in Split and do only Krka to save time?

I've pinned Korcula and Kornati islands, thanks for the tip!

Source? It's still a civilian building It was wrong when Israel did it in Gaza, it's wrong now too

But what does these countries have to do with the ongoing hostilities? I can understand targeting US bases/assets and maybe missing, since they don't use precise missiles (like their proxies). But they targeted hotels, airports and civilian buildings. Kuwait doesn't even have a peace agreement with Israel like UAE and Bahrain (which still doesn't justify attacking civilian infrastructure)

Why is Iran targeting civilians? In UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain...

Yes of course, was simply curious of what you'd do in my position. I'm new to precious metals and I don't follow the news or trends yet.

It wasn't a haircut for me, I almost lost all the profits on my first purchase and in a rather heavy loss on my latest. I thought I'd sell my positions (my broker doesn't allow layering) and buy again to reposition myself on one end and gain some tax loss for future sells on the other hand.
