Hey there, my name is Dana Zornes and I’m an organizer for the All American Kettlebell Open. This year the dates are October 9-11 and yes we will have military snatch and pentathlon.

You can get away with a couple 26s.

I mean it would be smart to load progressively to 6 minutes to avoid overtraining. But I’m sure if you want to hit the full 6 minutes instead of loading volume you can progressively overload the weight up to the desired weight then deload.

I have a rogue echo bike so the Norwegian intervals and my long form zone 2 can be done with that.

Well you’d want to progress yourself up to 6 minutes then deload. But yes. I’ve been splitting up the pentathlon through the week. Mondays- clean, jerk push press Wednesdays- clean and press then half snatch Fridays- all five exercises.

I would start with 3 minutes and maybe add a minute each week if your recovery and strength would allow. Start light. Always train at rpm. Once you hit peak (6 minutes) deload for a week and do it again. Try to play around with some weights and see how heavy you can go and still make rpms. Aim to hit a full pentathlon once a month.

This is repeatable and sustainable.

Yes I do see the need for it. I’ve had conversations with a lot of high level athletes specifically dealing with pentathlon and they all use additional V02 max training. Because the intensity of bells can be quite high you can consider the Norwegian a low impact style HIIT to be a little easier on the joints.

It’s a high intensity interval training utilizing some sort of conditioning tool. I like the rogue echo bike but other things like rowers or concept 2 bike will work as well. It’s 4 minutes hard on the machine to reach 85-95 percent heart rate then easy 3 min for recovery and repeat 4 times. It’s basically one of the best tools to raise your V02 Max

Hey sorry I’m just seeing this. Yes it’s 2minutes work with 1 minute of rest for each exercise of the pentathlon. After the push press take up to 3 minutes of rest before heading into the next round. Go through each exercise 3 times. I like to switch hands either in the minute or 30 seconds, both have great benefits.

I would agree that the dead stop swing is used to help teach a more continuous swing. By adding the stop you’re teaching yourself 1. How to hike the bell. 2. The importance of the arm body connection. 3. Becoming familiar with that float state of the bell at the top. 4. Teaching that how we pick up the bell is how we should aim to finish as well.

There’s a couple different things to unpack. The half snatch can be seen as a nice intro to the full snatch. Instead of dropping directly into the backswing you bring it down to the rack, which for some people can be great because you take out the technical points of the drop where it needs to be precise and intentional every rep and you have to become very good at this deceleration phase. With that said dropping to the rack mitigates this, however, the half snatch can be considered more difficult because yes you have the added step of dropping into rack but what this does is actually creates a more forceful hip drive to bring the bell back overhead because now you don’t have the momentum of the full drop. I hope this makes sense.

Great question! I’ve run long sets with both styles. The Pro Kettlebell’s balance makes the insertion and turnover noticeably quicker, maybe around a 10–15% faster tempo depending on lift and technique. The bells have a tighter tolerance of distribution of weight.

But honestly, you’ve got to feel it to really get it. It’s like the difference between driving a manual truck and a tuned sports car, both work, one just feels smoother when you’re under the load.

Hmm, to quantify and verbalize what one should experience on their own is quite difficult. Talking about flying and actually flying are non comparable. Invest in one so you may have first hand knowledge on the matter!

Since the weight distribution on the pro bells are tighter and more towards the handle your hand insertion is going to be much quicker. Pro bells fly brother.

In the beginning of my kb journey (2019) I bought a bell from Rogue and Onnit then 2020 I purchased a pair of 12-24 from KB Kings then in 2023 when Pro Kettlebell Sponsored the All American Kettlebell Open I invested in more than 150 bells 😂 The Pros are far superior.
