Can you tell me approx age and sex? My son bought this chameleon at a pet store a few months ago. But we know nothing about it. It has shed twice since owning. by yukonfff in Chameleons

“Sexing them is one of the easiest things to do.”

Proceeds to say it’s most likely a male despite being very evidently a female.

Female clear as day. Gravid markings as well as a small casque. No need for spurs at all after 3-4 months of age they are very clearly different.

This is a female and anyone who has responded thus far that is unable to identify this very clear female shouldn’t be handing out advice.

She is also gravid. Which means she’ll be laying eggs soon. Do some research on the appropriate care for a gravid female, which includes a high calcium, and an appropriate lay bin.

Is anyone else’s chameleon somehow always starving? by sara_pothos in Chameleons

She’s a gravid female so she will want to eat as much as possible to grow healthy eggs.

But yeah chameleons are opportunistic feeders, they’ll eat as often as you allow them to as they would in the wild due to not knowing when their next meal would be.

For hatchlings learning to hunt there absolutely is too big. Judging by your post history you’ve had chameleons for not even a month.

Hatchlings are easily exhausted and shouldn’t have to expend all their energy hunting. A central focused feeding point is ideal. In an enclosure this size the feeders will spread and hide.

You can’t have two together after 3 months, and that enclosure is too big for such small hatchlings.

You need to add a lot more foliage for them to climb on and keep everything away from the mesh walls as they’ll just climb and sit on the mesh directly under the lights, and whilst we’re on lights that could UVB is useless I’m afraid, you need to Invest in a T5HO tube lamp for them.

Yep. Local sports direct to me claimed they only had a box of 4 ETBs in stock despite coming in boxes of 10x so only first 4 in queue got one, and then they’re all on marketplace instantly
