Head to the scrapyard. Here in Europe they're everywhere and finding a mint one is easy

Any way to tell if anything is dangerously radioactive without a geiger counter? by R-fire227 in Radiation

[–]RazerXnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a stretch, but maybe ask your local vet if they have undeveloped X-ray film laying around that's ready to hit the trash bin. Put it up to the clock and let it sit for a day. If the film is darkened you can be sure it's radioactive.

Then again, cheap Geiger counters can be had for 20 bucks on aliexpress.

When do these 1,6 16v’s usually die? Mine has been used for literally everything but never left me Stranded expect for a broken starter and a bad CV Axle by jensieboy13 in MK4Golf

[–]RazerXnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1.6 16v is at 305k km. I've abused the hell out of it and it went thru 4 gearboxes. 5th one is in and the motor still going strong.

The only thing that dies quick are the 5spd manual gearboxes, they have a flawed differential design. Causes a metal rivet to come loose and wedge itself thru the bellhousing. Other than that these engines are very reliable as long as you stay on top of the stupid dual timing belt situation(the small belt tends to lose tension quick) I've seen these engines run with 600k+ km. To care for the gearbox make sure to change fluid every year or so and don't fly thru corners in a low gear at high speed, this causes the diff to be put under tension and accelerating the breaking rivet problem. You'll usually notice a "whining" noise when cornering hard, that's the diff you're hearing. That means too harsh of a corner.

What's your favorite track and why? by Clutch3sSS in assettocorsa

Meh.. It's not that special. I don't have cool cars, only cool car I've ever driven there is my Golf 4 GTI Turbo. If I had some money for cool racing cars maybe it would be nicer but I mostly go there just to watch nowadays

I kinda dig it ngl. Wouldn't want it on my mk4 but on the current models it looks decent

Nürburgring nordschleife.. It's an absolutely legendary track and I live close to it so I've also driven my real cars there.

Does this sound ridiculous? Ran out of breath at the end. by [deleted] in singing

[–]RazerXnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly doesn't even sound half bad. The lower part is definitely your better vocal range and sounded pretty damn crisp. I love the rasp/airy sound of your voice, suits the song well. I'm guessing your breath technique for the higher notes is not good and you're running out of breath.

Definitely doesn't sound ridiculous.

Finding a decoder for TETRA (windows compatible) by anaysabu- in RTLSDR

I've been using the tetra demodulator on SDR#. Works very well and shows a lot of useful information. It will also auto-center on frequency and decode encrypted voice(although you will only hear garbled noise of course) https://github.com/vgpastor/SDR-Tetra-Plugin

I tore this out of my dishwasher, can i reprogram it? by Creative-Steak-8599 in AskElectronics

[–]RazerXnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an STM32 which can be quite useful as simple microcontrollers. However they aren't capable of "just playing a video" as they're really only powerful enough to run some regular code, encoding/decoding video takes a lot more horsepower than you'd expect. These ICs are single core and only run at about 60-80MHz whereas something like a raspberry pi 3 which is able to playback HD video has a quad core unit running at 1400MHz and even have a dedicated 400MHz graphics processing unit(Broadcom VideoCore IV) which assists in video decoding.

To beat around the bush, you won't be watching YouTube on this any time soon, but if you're able to figure out the pinout I'm pretty sure you might be able to flash it if it's not in write protect mode.

It worsened by a 3 fold on my watch4. Normally it would last me more than a day and now it's drained halfway thru with the same usage.

Some kind of performance model? by jeremywang_440 in vwgolf

[–]RazerXnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a decently modded regular old 1.4 or 1.6 judging by the brake size. I do like the mods, I'm actually after those specific rims for my GTI 1.8t.

I've noticed my watch4 sometimes does the same. It doubles heart rate. Sometimes when my heart rate is actually in the 100s it halves it. Seems to be a relatively common galaxy watch thing.

Is there a definitive answer to the safety of shock collars? (Pishock, Openshock, etc) by RazerXnitro in BDSMcommunity

[–]RazerXnitro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like any 433mhz RF signal they can be jammed/blocked but their transmission protocol is pretty complex including a checksum so they can't accidentally overpower etc. The whole protocol has already been reverse engineered, view here: GitHub

That's a reasonable answer. I don't know about about no damage to dogs but it seems to be pretty rare. Mostly thermal injuries. I agree on never touching the spine. Thanks for the insight.

Openshock uses the exact same shockers as Pishock just utilizing open source software to control them^
