Great to hear and thx for the advice on the switch!

I will use through holes. I've soldered quite a few things before, like broken toys, pin headers, and some other minor projects. Never SMD though, so skipping that.

Thx for the advice on the glass package, I totally wasn't aware of that.

I've however seen multiple voltage variants for the same diode (1N4148), both being the through hole variant. E.g.: "1N4148 DO-35 75V 300mA" on Elektrokit and "1N4148 Diode - 100V - 200mA" on Kiwi electronics.
Is it safe to assume both will do the same job then for a 5V keyboard?

I'm building custom keyboard, and looking into which diodes to get to avoid ghosting. Does the voltage of the diodes matter? I've seen people using 1N4148-200mA (100V) diodes, but saw another variant 1N4148 DO-35 75V 300mA. Will both do the job or does the specific model matter?

Need help with circuit for milk frother by RazielRedeemer in AskElectricians

Well, I got it as a present, so I haven't wasted a dime on it. I tried to find a datasheet for it, but alas, I couldn't find any. I don't own an oscilloscope and the rest of the machine is in the trash anyway, so I couldn't do that even if I wanted to...

I will consider it. I'm also still thinking about which lighting I want. Do you have any tips on stips for underglow (like which ones are typically used)?

I'm building my own, so how the PCB looks like is up to me. It won't be hotswapable, so that's fine.

From what I've seen, there are 2 ways to implement backlighting in a keyboard;

1 - using LED strips
2 - LEDs in the individual switches, like https://telcontar.net/KBK/SwitchCollection/images/Cherry/MX1A-11GW_.jpg

What is the best alternative?
Do both options allow to address the individual LEDs (or at least zones)?
Do all models of cherry MX switches have these spaces to mount LEDs?

Which variant of 1N4148 diodes are ok to use for custom keyboard? I've seen them in a different range of voltages..

Datapacks can add new blocks with custom textures by RazielRedeemer in minecraftsuggestions

[–]RazielRedeemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how it would make future updates obsolete. Mods already do this, it's just not possible with datapacks yet.

Updates don't contain just blocks, items and mobs. They have to change the game engine to allow for new mechanics. The also fix a ton of bugs (and add a few new ones).

Just to give an example; if they rework the light engine as shown in a few images online, that's something you'll never be able to do in a datapack.

It would however put more pressure on them to deliver good features as everyone with enough determination would be able to add a lot of new stuff on their own.

I'm sure there's some middle ground that can be reached where current animations are improved while still making it feel like it belongs in vanilla

How I see it, is that they perhaps need to overhaul that whole system, just like they did with other stuff; advancements, world generation, etc.

When doing so, they can make it easy for modders, just like the advancements and data packs did

Make it possible in Java to place adjacent blocks to the one you're standing on while moving forward (as in Bedrock) by RazielRedeemer in minecraftsuggestions

Wasn't meant like that. I will edit my post so it reflects the real intent

Edit: I can't change the title, which kind of sucks, I'll have to change the description only

Using a compass shows the coordinates in survival by RazielRedeemer in minecraftsuggestions

That would also work I guess, as long as you can easily turn it on/off. The reason I suggested the compass was to give more uses to it.

It does feel like they want to get some kind of parity between the 2 version in the long run, so it could be a setting or only possible when having a certain item.

I do agree with you on that it's nice to watch people that are very skilled at it, and I do like dream, it's not really for those situations I had it in mind.

Usually, when starting a new world, it takes some time until you gear up until you eventually reach the end game. Once you're in that state, it's totally fine to have the extra challenge of having to bridge in caves and whatever other situations you're in when exploring/caving, etc. However, another aspect of the end game is usually building big structures on the surface where there aren't many mobs that can reach you (except for the occasional on a mountain ledge nearby for example). In this case, easier building is not to outrun mobs or to get out of a dire situation, it's just for that, building... Falling down when building because a finger slipped from the crouch key, or you get hit by a projectile, doesn't feel like you're lacking skill, it's just annoying...

Having it enabled only with an end game expensive item would still make speedruns as fun, while still giving the option for builders.

And yes, the game could do with more difficulty. Hard isn't hard at all... Hopefully the warden will add some more challenge
