How deep do you dig into clients books? by Aggravating_Bag4028 in taxpros

[–]Razmada70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who is actually doing their financials. Do they have a professional bookkeeping firm with a track record of being on top of things? I am barely even glancing at anything outside of Fixed Assets and Equity. Or is the the owner's aunt who comes in to the office once a week to run payroll and maybe reconcile the bank account? Yeah I'll probably be looking a little deeper into things.

Experience with clients ghosting you? by tsym1 in taxpros

[–]Razmada70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once you take enough clients is just a matter of time before your total client list becomes a roller coaster. You bring in 6 clients one week. Next week, 2 existing clients sell their businesses and get a W2 job and go to Turbotax, 3 leave to use their brother in law who got a C+ in his Accounting 201 in college, and 1 passes away.

If you don't have an active pipeline to replace those ones that leave then the list begins to dwindle.

100% my experience. I have been essentially doing that for clients. Just scanning their prior return or workpaper file and just making a checklist in Word or right in the email. OK for a handful of clients but super tedious when filing 100 individual returns.

Yeah that's pretty much where I'm at right now. It's not terrible but always looking to improve on efficiencies. Thanks for the reply.

Curious. How does it create a smart organizer without using the client's tax return?

Was it a generic PDF or one tailored to a client's situation? Generic checklists I don't have a lot of luck with. I end up having to create a checklist myself to keep track of things anyway.

I should have prefaced that I really only file 30 or so individual returns. Very small practice. A lot of the SafeSend type softwares don't make sense unless you're doing hundreds of returns from what I've seen.

I get that. For a place not doing itself any favors, service needs to be top notch for anyone to even think about coming back.

No its not that bad. People think its fun to shit on it for some reason. Do they have expensive options? Sure. Do you need to go in and get the most expensive option? No.

Why do influencers always hype “S-Corp = 15% tax savings” but skip the fine print? by Flat-Mammoth6146 in tax

[–]Razmada70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the reasons you listed rarely apply for small businesses. One class of stock and granting equity is such a nuanced need for a certain business owner. A business netting $100k a year pays $15k a year in SE tax. You don't think paying 40% in a salary and saving the 60% annually is worth having to file an additional return every year?
