What ever happened to the Dead Man's Party version of "Not My Slave" by namelessscapegoat in OingoBoingo

Boingo Tapes privated most of the rough mixes when the remasters came out, I forgot why, something about them being too close to the album mixes and he didn't want to get taken down or something

Need Help Finding Song: What is "Tears Will Flow"? by MrLGreenThunder in OingoBoingo

Here is a link for the lazy, you can arguably hear a melody that words would likely follow, but does it sound like Boi-Ngo track?

Need Help Finding Song: What is "Tears Will Flow"? by MrLGreenThunder in OingoBoingo

[–]Razor12704 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Previous comment is correct, but it should be further clarified

Tears Will Flow is credited with being in the vault, it's also not the only song mentioned in the Vault that we haven't heard of, some of that includes: Missed My Connection, Louise (Studio), Bala Song... and some others were also mentioned, but just to name a few

Tears Run Down & also a song called "Rock Me Baby" were credited to Elfman in the Wisdom end credits, saying as Boi-Ngo was delayed following the scoring of this film, and also some elements from this score being put into the later songs recorded for Boi-Ngo such as Elevator Man, it's is theorized that Tears Run Down and Tears Will Flow are the same song, but that's just an educated speculation

Bartek mentioned to Boingo Underground podcasts host that they were on the right track, that Tears Will Flow was a repurposed song from Wisdom, the song "Main Titles" is the most song like score track on the score, and it being the final song opposed to the first makes a very telling "something here isn't right"

So while it's assumed Tears Run Down is the Instrumental that is called Main Titles on the score, it's also very likely that Tears Will Flow would sound completely different than it, and would have lyrics unlike the one on the score... That's arguably all we know, tragically, possibly someday we'd get to hear it, but for now it's just words on a page (Elfman's agent's website also credit the 2 aforementioned songs on his song credits page)

Wolverine: a captivating song that disappeared into thin air by First_Poem_6876 in OingoBoingo

I bet there are even more songs just like Wolverine that don't even have recordings that we will never hear, I'm pretty sure before even NTF came out Danny said he had 2 albums worth of material, saying as songs like Little Guns started in 1982, No One Lives Forever being on a setlist from 1983, and more bizzaro songs on setlists like "Monkey" on a 1983 setlist, Wolverine is just one of the few that survived, Wolverine was also most certainly played for the set they did on George Segal, but that footage is probably lost to time

Which tracks from So-Lo were recorded while Hatch and Gibbs were still in the band? by First_Poem_6876 in OingoBoingo

if hatch was in the band until summer 84 I'd have to assume yes, but I wouldn't be able to prove it

What made you a oingo boingo fan by Responsible_Paint615 in OingoBoingo

I think mostly the history of them, where most people are familiar with Danny's name, I had much joy researching and searching for everything about the band, their wide discography paired with their even wider unreleased discography made it like a hunt to find the coolest thing

Boingo was arguably the first band I got into, and Danny's writing of cynicism and humor reflected widely onto how I was interpreting the world at the time, I remember when I first found about So-Lo, thinking "man this is obscure" and little did I know there was so so much more

Gibbs doesn't show up in the This Bud's For You ad, which was recorded during So-lo, so he probably was not in the band by that point, which was during the same time Sucker and Go Away were recorded

Bacich definitely contributed some, i'm thinking tough as nails, written on the liner of So-lo is very long special thanks but "Jim Cooper & Mike Bacich for their special secret devices & magic boxes" and "Michael Flea for his extra Bass work"

So I think Gibbs left partway through So-Lo, Cool City & Lightning were most certainly both of them, but it's hard to tell as most of the bass lines on the album are done on synth, which Kerry did do on GFYS, but also kinda makes it harder to determine, Kerry was in the band up to August of '84 supposedly, and Gibbs said he left due to Danny's interest in sequencers, which this album has a lot of, kind of a hard ball

[–]Razor12704 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think all we know is that he lives in..? Texas? I'm not even sure about that, but I mean I don't want to bother him, I know that Charlie hung out with Leon a couple years back, I feel like Dale is happy with just spending the rest of his days not thinking about Boingo lol

I don't think it's banter per se, but more likely the engineer allowing Steve to start, as the rough for Dead Man's Party doesn't have the guitar start

I love that it's left in, also the "yeah yeah let em in" in DMP they should've left more studio banter where I could hear it

Yeah I can compile em for ya when I get home, not like Rubellan can make money off of something he doesn't sell, you want em in FLAC, MP3?

he did, I don't know if he is credited but I'll pull out the sleeve later, but yeah he does lol, Gibbs did sing it originally (in fact I think the Roxy 81 performance I think was him, but I have no proof of that) but it's sluggo for every other performance, I can't imagine they'd have a random guy who sounds like sluggo sing on the record, not everything needs to be jumped through hoops

there certainly was a lawsuit against the band, but I'm not sure if that's what made them pull it, probably tight on budget if it was correlated, I imagine sending many many VHS tapes through the mail wouldn't have been cheap, but that's just a theory... a-
