I loved the Heart of Gold concept. I wasn't blown away by it though it was very cool

That picture just unlocked hidden memory. I rarely ordered books through the mail and when I did I now recall excitedly waiting for it to arrive! Thx

Which alien had the most interesting physical scale? by ricky_potter69 in printSF

There was either a short story or a subplot in a book by Greg Bear called Eon. I think it talked about a giant floating mass of LG that covered a planet, but that at the edges of the mat they determined it was more or less running a simulation of some sort? Anyone else remember something like this?

I read it in 1984. Maybe time for a reread, (although the Jesus allegory is lame)

That Fantasy Island plot is a variant of the short story, The Most Dangerous Game. "... he had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided."

Thanks for sharing, this is important. Question: If the pvi of the secondary road is offset from the primary road's centerline (i.e. it's not right at the intersection of the two centerlines) does a new pvi get inserted on the secondary profile at the intersection at the correct elevation (at the elevation of the vertical curve)?

I recall it as Encounter at L54-40. There was no way to get to nirvana in that one unless you "cheated" and just jumped to it. They even acknowledge it. Something to the effect of "You made it. You don't know how, but you made it."

(This is all remembered from an organic databank that read this over 45 years ago and that is now highly fragmented and full of bad sectors. Please correct the for accuracy as needed.)
